Trying to get my fog lights to work. They were with the car when I bought it, but my Celica is a GT model so I think it never came with factory fogs and the previous owner installed it himself.

Here's how they look.

The lights are installed, the wiring is there, but nothing is working. So I'm basically trying to trace the root of the problem of the install job from the previous owner. I'm using this how-to as a guide to try and trouble shoot the problem: http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showthread.php?31056-Non-fog-lamp-to-factory-fog-lamp-conversion-*56k-warning*

First thing I notice is that he did not use the fog light harness, and after following the wires around the engine bay noticed that the fog lights are connected to this here:

That is on the passenger side, and since I figure the fog light relay is on the passenger kick panel, I go take a look at that. Lo and behold there is a relay in there already, and I'm sure the switch is already connected cause I remember that when I last pulled my dash apart.

The only thing I can think of is the relay may be bad, because when I have the keys in and headlights up and press the fog light switch, I hear a clicking noise from the fog light relay. But I'm no expert, maybe someone could point me in the right direction here. Is it possibly the relay?

Thanks!

OK, I'm confused... these are not factory wired? If this is the case, you just have to trace the wires to figure it out yourself. Lights are very simple... You have a switch, a relay, and the lights.

what's the box marked "up" on the firewall? an aftermarket relay?

I don't believe they are factory wired because when I was looking around I saw the fog light harness unplugged and taped up. I did trace the wires from the fog lights and it leads to the box marked "up". That's where I assumed it just went inside the firewall and into the the relay. However it seems like the box is not OEM? I have no idea what it is.

Tinker around with the box marked up :)

Is the fog light fuse good?

Yes I will have another go at it today. It just gets frustrating sometimes when you have no experience at all and this is my first car and I don't work in the auto industry. I have to learn everything on my own with no one to teach me. All I got is the internet and this forum and I am very grateful for that. I will end up donating to CT to return the favor plus I want that avatar feature =p

Anyhow, I always wondered where the fog light fuse it. I haven't check that yet because I don't know where it is. I tried searching on this forum but it's either rarely mentioned or I get a bunch of irrelevant threads.

Can anyone tell me where the fog light fuse is??

The FOG fuse is in the box on the right kick panel with the heater relay.

If the fog harness is not connected to the lights, then all of the factory wiring may be completely bypassed. Where do the wires from the "UP" box head?

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and ask if the car has/had an alarm?

Yeah it has a cheap Viper alarm installed by previous owner. How does that affect the fog wiring?

if that box says "UP" I'm gonna go ahead and guess it's some kinda tilt sensor?
