View Full Version : This is bad right? +++ NOT CELICA +++

So I was getting a clunk upon accelerating in the tercel.

Took off the wheel, now i'm thinking that the axle is loose.

As far as I can tell, it's spinning inside the trans, not along the axle.

If this means yet another trans, that will be frustrating, I'm on the 3rd one now.

Any thoughts?
Is this maybe not the problem? I would love to hear that this is normal....

Is the tercel a 5sp?

The auto trans in park, by nature will have play like that. A 5sp shouldn't.

as he said, if it's auto, that's normal in a stationary gear (park),

as for Tranny diagnosis... if there's a problem under Accel, if it's a thunk immediately after you hit the gas, it's normally just the front or rear tranny mount. if it's a slip-thunk, then it's tranny

Im sorry for lack of details, it is in fact a. 5 speed. I was thinking mounts as well, but I stood outside the car and watched as ash put engaged the clutch and the wheel hesitated a second before it bit,

So I guess that puts me in the market for a new trans again.

I priced one today for $375, thats a lot for somthing I could pick-n-pull for less then $100, but the one I found only has 11K miles on it at a reputable local yard. So I figure that might be a good shot.

At least now I have all the tools to do it myself.
