In the 1st group buy BurnyD Jr said ¨Yeah, I'm still working out the logestics with Papabear here, but pricing is $155 shipped for st165 or st185.¨
and still need 10 members ?

$155 shipped?

Is that the right price?

I assume this is a bolt in radiator?
Does the stock fan bolt up?
Is it thicker [clearance issues with a non stock turbo]?

Can't quote the price, I don't know if it has changed since the last GB

I assume this is a bolt in radiator?
Yep. ST165 -> st162 and ST185 -> st182

Does the stock fan bolt up?
I think there were some issues with alignment of the holes for the fan shrouds but I can't recall.

Is it thicker [clearance issues with a non stock turbo]?
Drop in replacement. Same everything as stock including dimensions

it IS thicker...

There are conflicting reports of fitment on an ST185 however.

Here's one report from AT.net:

i've had mine for the last three years and has served me well. only thing that sucks is that if you use the slim fans, make sure you space the fan away from the radiator fins as my radiator suffered holes from the blades of the fan. with some massaging, i was able to get the oem radiator fan and shrowd to fit.

and here's another quote from less than 10 hours later:

I had no luck using the stock fans, there's a bunch of mounting points but there's no way a stock fan can be used with either the GT-S or GTFour so I have no clue what they're for. The one that I got from the CT groupbuy and the one that I got on my own off eBay are nearly identical, however the fins on the eBay one don't go all the way to the top and bottom, and they aren't even heights. Aside from that though they seem great.

When there are two people who have the same vehicle, and one person says it fits, and one person says it doesn't fit, I tend to believe the person who got it to fit. Universally, I read of problems with one of the shroud bolt holes being 5mm off, but that everyone has gotten the shroud to fit by elongating the hole

I have a rev3 engine but I am not sure if there is any clearance difference but I could not fit the stock fan and had to go the slim spal route with my ASi. They offered two it in two thickness. I chose the thicker of the two but its been so long I do not remember the dimensions.

I'll tell you what though, driving through the Mojave on many occasions up mountain grades, she performed like a champ. My engine has never run cooler, and I trust this will keep her running much longer.

And that's what I like to hear.... I am currently gathering all the supplies to build my street/autocross car It won't be the fastest, it won't be the most agile, but it's going to be optimized and a hell of alot of fun. Heat management is going to be paramount for me, so this is going to help out alot.

If I remember correctly, they drop in, but you need to change out the top radiator brackets from the GT-S, GT-4 There's a thread over on AT.net about that.

4thgenceli
09-21-2011, 01:29 AM
Correct.

These are drop in for st165/162 st185/182. They can fit the AT series with a little modification.

temperacerguy
09-21-2011, 01:51 AM
There is a part out of a GT-S, so I am sure you can get the upper rad brackets needed.

temperacerguy

The way a group buy works, is that people add themselves to the list. Once the required number of people are reached, the person arranging this (Red Rocket in this case), sends the information on payment to those in the group buy... Sometimes the arranger needs to collect everything and send all the money to the manufacturer, sometimes payment goes directly to the manufacturer. Not sure how this one is running.

So How fast depends on how quickly all 10 people are added to the list. and how quickly everyone sends in their money. So tell your friends and spread the word about the group buy... the quicker we reach 10, the quicker we get our radiators :-) I'll add your name to the list.

Just a quick note about the 162/165 fitment. I designed the dimensions of the ASI 165 radiator and I can tell you the bottom fan bolt doesn't line up perfectly. It's off by only 3 or 4 mm and if you elongate the hole in the fan shroud, it will fit without looking unsightly. I asked them to correct it but it appears they have not done so.

Full link here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/Rick88AllTrac/9.jpg
^Here you can just see where the bottom fan shroud hole doesn't quite line up properly. Other than that, it's a good fit and decent welds. :)

^The one correction we need; misaligned mounting hole for fan shroud.

I was always irritated that the ASI ST165 radiator didn't fit the upper support brackets perfectly.
Here's my solution. I used polyurethane adhesive (the same stuff that people use to fill in their motor mounts) and a section of
appropriate diameter automotive hose cut to size. I completely filled in my rad supports because they were cracking anyways.
Fits like a glove now. Hit 'em with a spray of black paint and you're done. :)

Last Group Buy it was $169.50 for Canadian Residents.
When the 10 people are gathered, a list with paypal addresses will be sent to ASI, and they will invoice you.
Finally, we've gotten 5 people in less than 36 hours, so I doubt we will have much longer to wait.

91Atrac
09-22-2011, 10:28 AM
Do you know how long it will take to be made and shipped from the time we put the order in?

I saw this over at alltrac.net and had wanted one since my current rad sprung a pin hole and these are lighter and better than stock. Am I wrong ?

temperacerguy
09-22-2011, 03:08 PM
To be honest, timeframe... I do not know... check the first group buy, that might give you an idea as to the time.

I don't know if they are lighter, I do think they are better.

4thgenceli

Y'all should list your paypal addresses to make it that much quicker to process along with your location (US vs. Canada).

Processing time, after I paid the company, I had my radiator in less than a week (WA -> AZ).

Alright, this seems like a really good buy. I'm pretty sure my crappy, plastic-topped aftermarket radiator that came with the car is ready to die soon. I've seen in this thread that the GT-S brackets work; however, I have a '92 GT. I would *assume* that the brackets are the same, but before I commit... anyone know that they'll work?

Thanks.

Yes, it will fit. The ST185 radiator will fit the ST182 GT and GTS. The ST165 radiator will fit the ST162 ST/GT/GTS ad they all share the same mounting.

OK, I have messaged RedRckt telling them that the list is full and we are waiting on the final payment instructions and the like. It seems he's not on the board much right now, but I will get in touch with him one way or another.

As I kind of have been the "Go to" person on this Group buy lately, I figure I'll keep it going.

As for payment, price and the like... I've pulled all the information from the first group buy... Here's what I found in chronological order....

Yeah, I'm still working out the logestics with Papabear here, but pricing is $155 shipped for st165 or st185.

They would like the $$$ as one lump payment and then each person's shipping address (and I'd presume they will provide a tracking # for each unit).

I need paypal addresses so I can send it their way and then expect an invoice shortly after

There is a a HST for Canadian residents (14% IIRC). Comes out to $169.50 for Canadian's, $150 for CONUS.

Now, I am not clear if ASI had invoiced people, or if BurnyD Jr did, also if the current price is $150, or $155 ConUS $169.50canada... To keep the ball rolling, I am going to PM BurnyD Jr with the questions. I am also going to PM everyone on the list so I can find out their paypal address, where they are, and ST185/ST165. Also to give people time to gather the information together, also for myself, and everyone else who gets paid on the 30th, I vote we keep this group buy open till the 30th. Any objections?

If you would like to get in on this group buy BEFORE THE 30th!, and are not on the list thus far, please add your name to the list, then PM me your paypal address, your location, and if it's an ST185 or ST165 model.

Thanks.

Unfortunately I have been unsuccessful in contacting the vendor that I purchased them from before. Emails and calls have not been returned. I am trying 1 last avenue of contact, and if that fails I will just post up a bunch of links where you can buy them. They won't be $155, but $25-40 higher depending on where you purchase it.

Even if for some reason they finally responded I still wouldn't want to deal with them. Too risky for me. I'd rather pay extra from a reputable dealer.

I'm starting to thnk the same - but will hang on a bit longer.

Yet the fact that they don't even respond to such a large buy makes me think that they might hold on to all the money for a long time - another "935 Motorsports" type of deal.

I will hold out a while longer - but I would rather pay the extra $25-$40 and get my thing WHEN I order it - that way I can wait till I am near to actually needing it.

Hey man - you know we all appreciate your efforts -

$155 SHIPPED does really seem a little "too good to be true" - even the cheap-shit stuff on eBay is $145 + ~$65 shipping - and then you don't really know what yer gonna get anyway.

That mishimoto rad listed above is like DOUBLE the cost and the only eBay rad I saw that is documented well enough to know what you are getting.

Hope this thing pans out.

4thgenceli
10-14-2011, 03:32 AM
These sell on ebay for about $195 + 20 for shipping. I was able to jew him down to $175+shipping. When I did the group buy he went to $155 shipped.

On ebay look for 'autopwr st165' or 'autopwr st185'. The website is www.autopwr.com. If you can get a hold of someone through the website they should sell them for $175 shipped.

Alright...

I will start off with my overall impression... I am EXTREMELY IMPRESSED with this as a $150 radiator. Hell, I would be impressed if this was a $225 radiator. It is however NOT a $400 radiator, but would take very very very little to be of the quality of a $400 radiator...

Now Here's where I am going to be critical.

1: There is a slight twist to my radiator. I would guess 1-2mm from corner to corner. I am guessing this is due to being welded out of a jig, and the welding slightly warped it. This will NOT affect performance, and when fitting one may have to slightly lever it into place... but I will doubt this will cause ANY problems whatsoever
2: There is slight contamination on some of the welds. This is always at the last puddle, so I am assuming that the welder didn't post purge. Again, this light surface contamination will not cause any leaks or performance problem... and can be cleaned up with a scotch brite pad
3: ultra small bends in some of the fins... now here's where I am being a picky asshole. They are not even visible when looking at them from the side... only visible when viewed from top down.
4: Hand cut brackets... the aluminum brackets were obviously cut on Shear, then a band saw, they are not laser or waterjet cut. On one of mine, Chang must have started the cut, then went "Oh shit" and moved a bit and started over.
5: This was aluminum MIG welded by hand. Now, let me say, Chang did a very good job on this, but it's not a robotic, or professional TIG "stack of dimes" look

OK, now, I am not saying that any of the above will cause any performance drop at all. I am just mentioning them as a reason this is not a $400 radiator. I am very impressed with this radiator and very happy with my purchase. It's 100% aluminum, and will last the life of the car. It also has small mounting holes on the side that I can tie a shroud into, it also came with a 1.1 BAR radiator cap, so I am happy with that.

Now, there are a few things I will do, and suggest you do too before installation.

There are rubber O-rings on the drain plug, and the additional little port on the bottom. Mine are pretty dry, so I would recommend putting a light lubricant on it... silicone or white lithium. Also, (and this is because I am a paranoid asshole... I would put some thread sealant on the little plug at the bottom of the radiator (BTW, mine came only hand tight, so make sure to tighten that down.)

Also, Tape a piece of cardboard over both sides of the fins... This will protect the fins during installation. Put the radiator in the bottom mounts... lean it back, and pull off the front cardboard... them mount the top mounts. Hook up the radiator hoses, then remove the back cardboard.

Here's the pictures promised:

The engine side:

Now, again, I am being ultra critical I am VERY impressed with this radiator group purchase...

Well - I got mine today.

As it turns out - I had a fever this AM and stayed home so was here when it arrived - though the UPS man just left it on the prorch.

I was worried when I saw te package as the box was beat up pretty bad - the bands were dug into the box at least 2". Just like UPS to just leave the thing and scurry away when the package looks like that.

So I opened it up and found it was packed well - after taking off the inner lining and bands everything looks OK - it is a real nice looking rad with no noticeable dings in it from the obvious BRUTAL shipping.

I'll take some pics later, but this IS a killer deal! This is less than the Koyo I bought for my GT from eBay if you consider the shipping - and that was the stock plastic tank rad.

alltracman, i just checked it and it doesnt line up with the bottom mount at all, the top ones look like they might need 2mm or so dremeled on the sides to make it work but the bottom is way off, will definitely need to modify the bracket to work. doesnt look like it will be too major of a surgery though, it would be nice if they would change that though! but you get what you paid for and if this is the only thing i have to do to not have to pay twice the amount for a mishimoto radiator then im not going to complain.

i think that would be the way to do it, the top mounts dont line up too bad, just a tiny bit of filing on the fan shroud will make it work, thats a good idea, just cut the bottom mount of the rad and weld a new one on in the correct spot and your all set. plus that way you wont have to hack up the radiator fan if you were to ever go back to a stock or another aftermarket radiator.

Got my rad today finally! Ah thanks to everyone or having pulled through on this!

Hope another group buy is in order :) for other things.

Maybe like for ecu's or fmic's. ;)

What push fans could I put on the rad? Trying to save room. Pm if you have some or suggestions.

Thanks

I have a 10" flex-a-lite pusher. Works great!

Did it mount up nice? And did it replace the stock on in the bay or the front left (passenger) side.

I'm closing this thread now.

To my knowledge this company does not make a st205 radiator. You can contact them yourself and inquire though. Autopwr.com is the site.
