Well as anyone who drove behind me at the dragon knows the mr2 was burning some oil. I assumed it was the valve stem seals and those may be leaking too.

See the pitting on the cyl wall? The only thing I can think of that can cause this is rust. These are the middle 2 cyls so I'm thinking this engine sat for a while at TDC on 1 and 4 while the middle 2 were at the bottom.

Regardless it's getting blacktop pistons and some machine work to make around 11.8:1. Along with some 270 cams, valve springs and some port work.

It's going to be expensive and take a while but I'm committed at this point. It actually probably will not be running by the next dragon meet. We'll see.

Yea - I'd go along with that - the thing was sitting for a LONG time - long enough for significant condensation of water in the crankcase to cause that.

I've seen such before - but only on cars that were sitting under a hood with the heads removed.

Can that engine be re-sleeved?

It's all iron so it just needs to be bored. I'm thinking .5mm~.020" but if I can find 1mm oversized pistons I'll do that.

PS: My blacktop smokes like a chimney... in Auschwitz...
