Ok, so we all know that the 7th gen shifter will fit the 5th gen. I was thinking right now, and according to that, that means that a short shifter for a 7th gen will fit a 5th gen? Correct?

Yes.

The end position may not be where you want it, but it will fit and work. I've got one in Abby right now and I used to have a 6g shifter in my old 91 GT before Stacy bought me my TWM.

i looked this up recently and i also found out that a 93 corolla shifter will fit as well and that also is true for the corolla short shifter

So I installed it today, and guess what. Neutral is basically first. I can hardly find 4th too. What did I do wrong?

I know, but I didn't think it would be this bad lol

Did you remember to grease the cups before you put them back on? There aren't too many ways to screw this up...

1. Cables off
2. remove shifter top plate/shifter assy (6g)
3. replace old shift lever with new shift lever
4. grease cable ends (the plastic cups)
5. re-install shifter plate/assembly
6. cables on
7. grow some muscles b/c you will need them or a weighted shift knob to help with the loss of leverage.

NOTE: If you had sloppy gears before, unless you resolve that issue, it will be the same if not worse.

A lot of the 6g guys install solid shifter bushings on the transmission when they do this to really stiffen the gears up.

On the same note as trying the 7th gen short shifter, would a mr2 mkII short shifter also work? (not meaning to thread jack, just curious since the topic was up...)

nope

I did all that. I don't have sloppy gears, just that when in neatral, the lever is basically stuck to the left. As if I were to shift to 1 or 2

At least it looks cool lol

I think I just have to get use to it.

I have used a modified Corolla Short Shift and now I am using a Rev 2 5th Gen shifter in Chaos. It feels good. I would like to have a short shifter in it though.

I meant to make you a short throw shifter while you was here. If you find another shifter in the junkyard send it to me. I can lengthen it by almost 3/4in and cut the throw by half.

I made a short throw shifter for a buddies 6th gen and it barely has to move to engage gears.

The 92/93 5th Gen has a far better gear shifter assembley so I'm definitely going to change to that platform as soon as I can find one at PAP.

If you want one, I've got an extra 6g shifter and an extra 5g shifter lying around.

So ummm, screw this shifter. I can't find 4.

Where should I cut my Stock one? Just the bend, or half of the bend?

You have to lengthen it below the ball joint to shorten the throw. The part the cable connects to.
