Hey,

What is the best gearbox for the 3sgte for racing.
I will be getting close to 450rwhp
I belive the ratios ob the gearbox of each generation are different.

So far I am thinking a ST205 engine and gearbox.

How about the caldina. What is the gearbox like on it?

Thanks,

Gareth

What type of racing? what vehicle is this going in? what speeds will you be running?

For 2wd, prolly the MR2 LSD gearbox E153. For AWD I would say the ST205 gearbox E154.

well, 2WD transverse, or 2WD longitudionally, as there is a whole host of 2WD transmission choices if it's front engine/rear wheel drive

Yeah but finding a bellhousing is a pain. Easiest is W series, but its going to be a bear to get the parts no matter what. May even involve a custom bellhousing setup to a T56 or similar.

remember, the guy is in Australia... finding a tranny from an Altezza (IS200) isn't really going to be difficult.

Caldina? wasn't that automatic only?

W gearboxes are only really good up to 300 WHP, even 350 would be pusing it. There is a reason I run a R154 in my car.

I've been searching for over a year now for any transmission that would take the 475 RWHP of my modified Lotus Elise 2zz engine. I had an MR2 Turbo E153 with the custom fitted bellhousing etc. and ACT clutch put in and it tore up the transmission and clutch within a few days.

How did you tear an E153 up with only 475 RWHP?

Indeed?! ATS racing is putting over 800 rwhp through those boxes!
