View Full Version : Figuring out new torque peaks with new cams

I'm planning to get some new cams for my 5S and after reading about the effects of the new cams, I'm wondering if I can calculate a rough estimate on what my new peaks will be with new cams.

For example, the stock 5S cams seem to have peaks at 3700 and 4200 RPMs. A webcam 294 seems to move the torque peaks up to about 4200 and 4700 RPMs as evidenced by dyno results.

However, is there a calculation that will reveal this and help to give an idea of where one could expect torque peaks with any cam profile? I'm just doing a little planning and looking ahead at what results I can expect from a different cam profiles out there. Thanks!

It's a pretty linear relationship so you can easily guess by looking at duration at 0.050". Stock is about 204 degrees, Webcam 294s with 218 degrees move it up 500 rpms, 101s with 229 degrees move it up about 1000 rpms. Lift and lobe center effect it too but only enough to move it a little up or down.
