Ive got all the dash off and now I'm stumped. I've taken off all the screws and bolts holding the heater core cover but it won't come off.

Any ideas?

The 6th gen was the first car I ever did a heater core in, and I haven't taken the st165's interior apart yet.

The best bet, like bloodMoney said above, is to take a picture of what you have apart so far. Try to post a couple high quality pictures so that we can see the detail to help you figure out what else needs to come apart.

Ignore my post above. You posted at about the same time, so I hadn't seen the picture yet.

The entire case holding the heater core should come out. Have you already drained the coolant and disconnected the hoses at the firewall? The case looks loose, so where do you feel it binding?

When I did it on the 6th gen, I pulled everything out, including the metal subframe of the dash that you still have in there. It was easier to maneuver everything out. Also, since we didn't have anything left in the AC system, I pulled off the AC component case to the right of the case that holds the heater core. On the 6th gen, the AC case slides and locks into the the right side of the heater core case, and then bolts to the firewall. Have you tried unbolting the case to the right to see if that will help?

When I tried this I was unable to get the clips on the back of the heater core case off. I didn't dismantle the dash so my access was limited.

I would do waht she says and remove the whole enclosure.

I finally got the heater core off. My mistake was I didn't realize the center case and the ac case came off separately.

Correct way is to remove all 3 sections starting at the fan then the A/C then the heater.

I suggest you remove the fan and A/C boxes as well. Those tend to get gummed up with leaves and need cleaning out every 20 odd years

While you have the dash out, it's time to replace the missing vent seals.
I used bicycle tube and it's been great the last 2yrs, nice to have a dash that
works properly
