I was just wondering -

There is a new temp worker at my work that has one of those Scion cars - and it is near where I will go out to take a break.

I got to looking at it - and it didn't look so bad - actually - it looked pretty good. So just the other day when she came out on break I got to talking to her about the car - and she had it for about 5 years with no trouble and really liked the car - and I asked her to open up the hood.

So I take a look at the engine - and I thought maybe I was looking at a Toyota (Yamaha) Celica engine - complete with the 16-valve and VVTR written on the valve covers.

VVTR? What? No.

I've heard of VVT, VVT-i, VVTL-i and TVIS but not VVTR as a system -- I thought it was just a co-efficient used in describing the operation of VVT iterations.

Maybe it's variable valve timing with retardedness. If so I'm on board.

I will look again tomorrow and maybe take a photo - I could swear it was "VVTR" - which maybe I confused with "VVT-i" which as I unsterstood from reading Wiki was the next step after the BEAMS.

I'd guess it's VVT-i...

Yea - that's what it is - here is a photo of a car exactly the same model:

BEAMS - Breakthrough Engine with Advanced Mechanism System
VVT-i - Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence

Beams engines have VVTI but they dont necessarily mean the same thing. Even Beams engines have a VVTI badge

The 2AZ isn't the shiny red one btw... The shiny red one is a damn good motor.

Wait, there's some other kind of 2AZ? :hehe:

PS. I DID note the sway bar, except I couldn't see it very well through the engine bay. The strut bar looks ok though!

Yeah I know, I was drunk and not paying attention. I realized it like right after I hit send and was to lazy to correct.
