Hey everyone,

What is the best turbo upgrad for the gt5 st185
Seen plent of manifold for the T3 turbo.

Where is the best place to sorce one. There seems to be many stage upgrades to the T3. Anyone have something that explains the impellor etc upgrades for this.

So what exactly are you looking for? What are you performance goals? Just a nice upgrade from stock? Do you have any supporting modifications? What is your budget?

Or are you just looking for a manifold?

In general I would say you do get what you pay for. So if you are looking at Chinese made ebay products, well, the quality will be 'appropriate' for what you paid. There are some good vendors on our site that make upgrades for the 3S-GTE.

im taking it you have the stock turbo right now correct? the stock turbo can easily be upgraded to push 17psi with a simple mod. which would be a boost controller. twosrus.com sells them for $50 with instructions on how to install them in a 3sgte motor. i purchased mine a couple months ago and it worked flawlessly. probably the BEST 50 bucks youll ever spend on your alltrac :)

Aiming for 500bhp

This will happen in many stages. Turbo upgrade is me doing research for future stages.

Yes have boost controller. Can't get anywhere near 17psi even with FCD.

Trying to find a front bar for by new intercooler. Will prob be back to stock boost with this intercooler before I run out of fuel.

I have not tested how far I can push it yet. Doing lots of research. Have a good book on engine management systems that goes through a 6 stage upgrade on a MR2 getting 660bhp from memory.

Any way still intstalling brakes, suspension, bushes, manifolds, exhaust, struts, wheels.

Soon I will need to start to look at new engine specs. This is going to take me about a year or so. This will include the turbo upgrade, computer etc.

Which brings me to another question. Would anyone ever look at getting a calidina half cut. (prob spelt that wrong) for a base engine platform.

Ok getting carried away. Still looking at different types of T3 turbos. Different bearing impellors etc. Seen differneces in prices from 400 to 3000

Wouldnt need a caldina half cut. I bought mine as engine/ecu/harness. Dont need anything else for the st215 swap

True.

I have a st185

It is the same engine just newer right?
I belive there are a few changes that allow it to produce a little more power but nothing to stop it fitting into the st185.

just stick with that engine u have and build it right. 500 whp isnt too hard to get to when you put yor money in the right place. compturbo has a "5458" that should get you to 500 hp. they also offer oiless bearing systems that are outperforming the competition, i might be able to get you a slightly better price on those but its still gonna cost you over 1200

I need another engine so that I can take my time building it but still have my slight modified engine to play with in the mean time.
So I will get another 3s-GTE
I was just wondering if it is worth getting a newer engine like the one in the caldina.

to build up a gen4/caldina is probably the best idea keep it stock bore and give it all the forged parts u want and with all the flow parts u want lol

to keep ot safe stay stock bore it will go to 750 hp on the bare block

for me reliability is key, and there IS a replacement for displacement, its called technology.
