So it looks as if it will indeed be a Scion here if it even makes it to production.

Scion "FR-S" as it may be known:

i know that i shouldn't care if it is a scion or not, i should be happy that it most likely will make a state side release but with that scion badge and not a Toyota badge i fell like Toyota kicked me in teeth while i was down on the ground

:( :(

And so Toyota remains appliances.

I'd still rock one, though.

And once again, even with a Scion badge, I must go change my pants.

I'd honestly still rawk the piss outta that. Toyota can stay appliances, as long as someone makes that car I'd be good.

If I could ever have one, I would be changing the tags to toyota. That sucks. That is without a doubt the coolest car I have ever seen though.

Still not looking too bad, and still not holding breath. Three things really remain to be seen and make or break the whole car: Production, will it happen? Price, will it be retarded (LFA anyone), or reasonable? Powerplant, will it be good (this is the company that slapped a 1zzfe into the MRS, one of their chassis with the most potential)?

I agree with T-Spoon.

While I love the stance and aesthetics, the engine is a co-development between Toyota and Subaru, the last thing really is the price tag. Hoping it comes in at around $20g.

I like the lines on this car so far. Since seeing the original shots of this concept I have said this is the one car that could change my mind on buying a new car. That is still my thought, but price and final version have yet to be seen.

Looks like a Elise from the side, just a lot bigger

Miata nose, RX8 fenders, NSX cabin and a Tiburon rear, all powered by Suburu while being wrapped in a ground effects body kit.

I can't wait to see the final production vehicle, but this car doesn't seem to have a history. I really wish Toyota would get back into race development and give their performance vehicles something to inherit.

Paint looks awesome though.

If this thing ever comes out it will be 35k. It will be a scion 350z. Why not just get a z?

From my understanding there will be a Scion variant as well as a Toyota and Subaru. From Autoblog;

"Another auto show, another version of Toyota and Subaru's joint partnership rear-wheel-drive sports car. We saw Toyota's FT-86 II concept in Geneva earlier this year, along with the chassis for Subaru's version of the car. Now here in New York, Scion has taken the wraps off of its FR-S, a sexy little number that rides on this same platform."

The concept looks great, but like all other manufactures it will be watered down. Here is an example the Nissan Versa

A crappy engine, nww lame ass name, still not a modern '86 or Celica, and Subaru touched it. I've been quickly losing interest in this project over the past 20 years they've been advertising this. At least this Scion version looks good except for the angry noodle front end.

I mean FR-S? A lot of thinking went into that one. Its like that one time Toyota put the engine in back of a car and called it MR2...

Still excited for this, and though I would REALLY prefer it land here with a toyota badge on it, I'm not going to turn my nose up at it just because it has a scion badge on it.

RWD, AWD; Subaru Engine, Yamaha Engine... I'd still give me left nut to have one.

This is my problem with the car. If the chassis is set up like an Subaru (designed to accept a awd trans) the motor is going to be about 5 miles ahead of the car and make the thing push, my big issue with Subarus to begin with. Yes, you can make it work but I'd rather the car be balanced to begin with. It's not just about the F-R weight, it's also about how far the weight is from center. FMR-S would be better... (think S2000 or Corvette).

Plus if it has a boxer motor I don't want it...

From what I've read, its confirmed no AWD, just RWD. They also were cramming the motor as far twards the center of the car as they could.

The FT-86 might just be called a 'celica' in Europe

How neat is that?

Neat? I call it another kick in the nuts for the US market if it were to play out that way. Scion. Blech.

Toyota/Subaru/Scion can take this thing and shoe-horn it up their collective @$$e$:fuckoff::fuckoff:. This thing is a Subaru to the core with a twist for the starving Toyota faithful, who haven't seen a compact sport or sports car in ages from a company that has just given up on making anything remotely fun to drive:slap:. If I want a Suby I would buy one not a rebadged version of one:furious::furious:. Not ragging on anyone who likes this thing, but it is no Toyota aside from the badge it will be sporting when or if it arrives in the US. It might just end up being the Yaris RS by that time :ghey::ghey:

Hey people, long time no posty.... Well I just got off the phone with my younger brother living in Zurich, Switzerland., he went to pick up his Verso at the dealership and was talking to the owner. He mentioned he just got word from Toy Switzerland that the Celica was coming out again late this year, probably late August early Sept. But it will be definitely badged as a Celica no doubt. So there, we will have a 8th gen Celi with a really agreassive look I just hope its as fast as it looks.

you know what they say about celicas......

it looks cool, but i bet it will have a high price tag. if its a turbo boxer then it will be amazing. if its subarus new rev of the N/A boxer then it will be nice (200hp) but if its the 2.5 that they throw in everything now, it will be boring. (170hp)...

wouldn't surprise me if it has the price of a genesis coupe, it looks like thats what they're going after...

UtahSleeper

I just wish it didn't have the boxer. I wont go as far as saying it's a rebadged suby since suby doesn't have any rwd cars I am aware of.

UtahSleeper
06-02-2011, 04:13 PM
Think it's the fact that the boxer is not a Toyota thing. So, it buzz kills that something is coming out with alot of potential, but they can't give it as heart that belongs there. A 2zz or something would make it more fitting. And if I wanted a boxer I could buy a suby.

METDeath
06-02-2011, 10:02 PM
So... sitting in the dentist waiting for my cleaning and read Motor Trends, apparently the new chassis is going to have some awesome wheel base specs, an inch taller than a Miata, and the boxer engine is apparently going to be sitting about 4" lower and 9" closer to the firewall than it sits in AWD.

KoreanJoey
06-03-2011, 02:17 AM
Porsche has been cramming boxers into sport cars for a long time. I do agree, but at the same time, there isn't an engine that Toyota makes right now that I'd really want in my car either. Right now it's a close match between the FRS and the S2000. I'd rather stay Toyota/Scion but we'll see how everything shakes out. Right now honda definitely pays better in their grassroots programs than Toyota.
