so i just picked up some used ground control coilovers. Im prob not going to install them till the summer, when i start working and can buy some gr2's. im broke right now haha.

i was thinking of getting new wheels in the summer, and i was wondering if i could fit the xxr 522's.

they come in

17x9 +42 or
17x8 +48

think they'll fit on my coupe?
which would fit better the 17x8 or 17x9

with lets say 205/40/17 tires.
i mean i had 17x7's before with no prob.

i wish they made them in 16x8 or something.. haha

Those offsets are both to positive.

I know in the rear you can fit 17x8 +35 just fine, have to roll the fender, but to fit that in the front you have to run GTS fenders. Captain has it on his vert, and I'm planning on doing it to my coupe. I don't know if Cappy has measured his clearance from the wheel to the strut housing, but I'd wager that there isn't much room in there for the 17x8 +48 as there's 13mm less clearance than with a +35 of the same size.

I know I've been having a hell of a time shopping for 17x8+35's that I like and aren't $$$ I think I'm going to give in and get 5zigen FN10RCs and stuff some 225/45/17s on there.

yea i guess the problem would be the front fenders and the offsets is too high.

i also hate that there isn't a good variety to chose from that are cheap. ha

i bet you those fn10rc's would look great on your car.

I know they would, I already have a similar style 5 spoke 17x7 that's no longer in production, looks closer to the 7th gen GTS wheel... but still, it's sex, but the FN10RC is probably lighter. There are some 17x8s that are in the <200 range, but they may look like crap. Honestly the best bet for a stock coupe is a 17x7+40 or +38 wheel. At least for flush look.

The front would be flush but the rears would need spacers, right?

Something small, like a 5mm or something silly, but if you're lowered, it'd actually be a bad thing to be flush in the back, unless your fenders are rolled already.

17x7 +38mm will fit flush on the front of the car. They will be inset on the rear about 20mm.

I ran that configuration for several years.

I am currently running 17x7 with a 40mm offset. The wheels are inset just a hair in the front. Not enough for most to notice, but I do. The rears are even more so. I run a 5mm spacer in the rear, but this only alleviates the problem in a minor way. It is still obvious that they are inset.

If you are going with a 17x8 but only intend to run a 205/40/17 you are wasting your time. You can run that on a 7" wheel with no problems. You can run a 215 or even a 225 on a 7" wheel as well. If you are going to step up to an 8" wheel, step up to some big meaty tires in the 245 flavor. Otherwise you are just wasting money.

Unless you are going for that stretched tire look, but wider tires usually means better traction.

I agree with Murg, why run a wider wheel but run a pansy ass tire size? I personally hate the stretched look, and imagine that it hurts performance more than anything.
