Anybody know how much it roughly costs to swap a 3sgte into a 96 celica gt, for decent running donor motor, when all is said and done. Going on a quarter million miles on my 5sfe and it's getting sleepy.

I moved your post to a new thread, since it was posted in a wiring how-to that was not related to the question asked.

First, I suggest you read the stickies, especially this one: http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showthread.php?81-Thinking-about-swapping-READ-THIS-FIRST

To answer your question, really "it depends". There are so many variables involved which makes that really tough. However if you want a number, I would say anyway from $2000 - $5000. Depends on how much maintenance work you do, what gen of motor you buy, purchasing a motor or a clip, any modifications you do, or any extras you might want to buy.

So hopefully this helps! But it's a tough question to answer. :)

Just figure on spending 3x more than the cars worth( ~$1000), then spending that again over a period of 2 years cause stuff never seems to be right or breaks. Thats how much!

Thank you for your responses. I think I'll look for a front clip so I've got the whole works and plenty of extra parts. I'm nervous about buying just an engine because they may break stuff while removing it. I'd just as soon to be the one dismantling it because I'll take it easy. Thanks guys!

Clip is the way to go for sure. Youll be happy.

My swap was ~2500 just for the motor/ecu/harness/upgraded transmission and re-seal kit for the engine That doesn't in clutch and a few parts I lost/needed/broke. I think I'll be close to 3500-4g when I'm done.

I bought my car and swapped a gen4 3sgte for $5000. I did it all my self (excluding the wiring) had stock exhaust and top mount. Theres alot of things you can do to make it cheaper, then upgrade down the road. If i wasnt 4 hours away i would come give you a hand.

I don't wear panties anymore.

So now you just soak your pants? That sorta ruins the fun.

You're putting a 3SGTE into your Celica. Why would they not be wet?

Didn't need anything to make the emissions system legal or just didn't do it legally?

The state I live in has no emissions inspection.

I just gotta pass a sniffer here. Usually the techs don't know what to look for emission wise here.

Cost for me was about $2400 including engine/ecu/sensors/harness etc as a set, E153 XMSN w/ axles, new clutch, new seals for everything I touched, timing belt, wires, plugs, water pump, and other odds and ends. this was for a 2nd gen 3SGTE into a 91 GT-S
