View Full Version : DIY Clean and rebuild injectors w/ PICS

This is by no means a professional job, but its cheap and easy and better then nothing.
Be careful and dont drop or damage the little tit on the end of the injector.

Stuff you need:
Seal kit
Carb cleaner
Clean space to work
Piece of clear tubeing to fit around the top of the injector, donno what size

Go buy a injector rebuild kit from Mr. Injector (http://www.mrinjector.us/index.html)

Start stripping an injector.

Remove the screen with a skrew. It needs to be tight but not hella tight. M10 skrew worked good.

Yank it out, dont get crazy, pull straight out.

Remove the little ruber spacer on the top.

Remove the intake seal. Kinda twist it and pull down, be carefull not to damage the tit of the injector.

Now remove the pintle cap, they usually just break off but you can twist and pull them of as well. Carefull of the tit.

Now you should have a completely stripped injector.

I use carb cleaner to clean them with, spray out the fuel hole up top first, carefull cause the carb cleaner is gonna spray back out the hole and it burns your eyes.

Put the injector in a little vise or something

I made a little wire harness to use to flip the injector open and closed. 9v battery with a toggle switch.

Get a little tube and use that to run cleaner through the injector. I fill it up and use my switch to turn the injector on and off to work cleaner into it.
I also blow down the tube to force cleaner thru the injector, do that at your own risk.

Install the new orings and stuff back on and be happy.

Seems like a good method to try and just clean out the years of gunk. Good job on the little write up.

Some things I forgot to say:

Check the resistance of the injector before and after rebuild. My Haynes book says its like 13.8 ohms but this could vary on year and engine. Google "test injector resistance" for more info.
Clean the outside of the injector while you still have the old screen and pintle cap on. I just stuck mine to a wire wheel to clean the outside.
Paint the outside a color of your choice to make your injectors look cool. Tape off the bottom and top and just paint the metal body in the middle.
