Hey, so aside from the obvious of "Don't miss your shift" and "Keep it under 9K" any tips on daily driving a stock 2ZZ-GE 6-speed? I may be getting one in a month or so, not sure yet.

check the lift bolts, change them every 10,000 miles. just change your oil often. 2ZZ is a fantastic engine

Really? Every 10,000 miles? I changed mine when I changed my engine about 30k miles ago. You think I need to be replacing them every 10k miles?

That's a bit much isn't it? I thought that the lift bolt problem existed on the earlier 2ZZ's.

Good engine - not the best out there but overall its a good powerplant.

Give it to your girlfriend. She has more experience driving a stick than you.

It'd be a 2004/2005 most likely, I'd be running 5k mile synthetic, and probably actually trying to get decent economy out of it instead of blasting around like I do in my 5S-FE (I really only lost 1 MPG or so on city driving from grannie driving to lead foot).

Youre gay. You gonna pay a whole lot more for one that new than a 00/01 (if you can find an unmolested one)

The year was based on the availability at the time... and isn't terribly likely right now due to me trying to finish the queued up mods for the coupe. The main idea for the "new" car was for a daily beater that has more usable storage space than what I have. I was also looking at a Impreza WRX wagon for some AWD turbo-ness but the 2ZZ seemed better on the fuel economy stand point. Although, the difference between my 91 GT and the 2ZZ isn't enough to actually offset the price difference in gasoline.

i dont care what kind of oil you use, change it every 3000 miles. i have rebuilt SO MANY 2ZZ's that burn oil because they didnt change the oil often enough and the oil rings got gummed up. even running synthetic. This is why i dont waste the $$$ on synthetic. none of mine burn oil cause i change it often enough.

My stand as well. Doesnt matter what oil you use as long as you change it often. I change my bike every 2000 miles or after a hard ride.

Yeah, if I'm doing 3k changes, then I'm not going to bother with synthetic on a non-turbo car. I only run synthetic on my 5S-FE because I get the 15k mile stuff, which lasts me at least a year. And I do change the filters on the 5S every 5k and top off if needed.
