Cold conditions ignition just clicks when key hits start position. After several tries the starter engages and engine starts ok. Looked at starter- under the exhaust manifold. Does exhaust manifold have to come off? Exhaust bolts are a PITA.

Have you done the starter relay fix? We have a write up on how to do this somewhere, I could find it if you haven't done this yet.

Starter relay fix is for a dead harness, clicking indicates the harness is OK?

Cold conditions ignition just clicks when key hits start position. - Check your earth and starter connections, if either is loose it will do that.

After several tries the starter engages and engine starts ok - Starter could be dirty or dry inside.

Does exhaust manifold have to come off? - No, 2 bolts on the bellhousing and it slides out

Take it out and test it like this, my guess is the solenoid (plunger) is sticking & a clean and lube will sort the problem
