a friend of mine has a 6th gen 5sfe. he was wondering if these cams would be good for his car. this is the link he sent me.

if you scroll down to all fitments, it says it will fit the 5sfe. any thoughts?

WTF... As far as I know HKS never made cams for the 5sfe...

good find.

so what do you guys think about the grind?

Since when has a 3sgte camshaft fit into a 5sfe? And when has a 5sfe been turbo? And when has a 3sgte been non turbo? And why would that camshaft fit a 5sfe in an MR2, and not a 5sfe in a Celica?

I think that website has some skewed information. I've never heard of an HKS cam for a 5s. If they did have one, it'd be a different part number.

I'd bet that these are not for the 5sfe. I've also never heard of HKS making products for the 5sfe (or 3sfe for that matter).

FWIW, the valve and cam bearing spacing is the same between the 1st gen 3sge (and hence 3sgte) and the 5sfe, but the 3sge cam is too short to be used in a 5sfe head. And that is neglecting the gears on the 5sfe cams that the gte does not use.

If the cam bearings are the same, in the first generations of both engines... then the cams should work. However, the FE and GE heads are very different and the bearing spacing is not the same. Valve angles aren't even close. FE heads, slave cam'ed; GE heads proper twin cam gears. FE heads, 22.5deg valv angle; GE heads, 55 deg. GE heads are about 2 inches wider left to right. Ge heads revision 1 and 2 had wider intake ports to allow for TVIS, FE heads did not. GE heads have no spark plug tubes, FE heads do...... I'll stop there.

Either way, HKS never made production cams for the 5S-FE. Probably not evn protptypes.

So maybe a better way to say it is that the cam journal spacing and valve spacing is the same, but the front bearing width is not.

how about the fact that the 5SFE uses a unique 'gear' on both cams and that the exhaust cams spins in the opposite direction of the intake cam?

unless you can fabricate the gear on both cams, then it is useless.

i'm sure the seller's site intended for the Mr2 listing to be:
1990-1995 3SGTE
1990-1995 3SGE

and, just for the sake of demonstration and illustration...

5SFE cam

3SGTE cam
