VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - There is a push to get imported, right-hand-drive vehicles off our roads. The Canadian Auto Dealers Association (CADA) claims they are unsafe.

An independent mechanic says they can also also be a real headache for owners. Ron Toy with Autozone Mobile Repair in Burnaby says consumers should do their homework very carefully when it comes to Japanese direct imports. He's worked on them, but says you often have to take the quirky vehicles to a handful of shops that specialize in repairing and importing parts for them.

"They've kind of got you, because often you have no choice when it comes to buying parts. Some of the information is very hard to come by and these companies often keep the information to themselves ... and they charge a fair amount of money to do the repairs."

Would he recommend buying a direct import, right-hand-drive vehicle? "To tell you the truth, no -- for safety reasons. Even [among the] people who drive left-hand-drive vehicles, some don't drive well to start with. Now they're trying to drive a right-hand-drive and it's completely different," says Toy.

The Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) is pressuring Ottawa to close a loophole that allows right-hand-drive vehicles to be imported into Canada.

This could be a real fight...

Bleh...same old arguments, no logic involved.

I'm going to petition to ban motorcycles, since injuries in the case of accident are much more severe than automobiles. They're killing everyone!!!

HAHAHAHA just realized what CADA is. OF COURSE they are opposed to it!

Of course! They're completely concerned about everyone's safety, it's nothing about seeing people spend over 10 grand, 20 grand on a 15 year old freshly imported car while their cars sit unsold on lots, no, not at all.
