Original Post
Well, I have been working on a design (and very soon a prototype) for an air diversion panel for the ST185 and other 5th gen Celicas. This one will be made of aluminum instead of the factory plastic piece. Once I have a design that has been successfully test fitted onto my alltrac, I will offer them up for sale for those who are interested. Please post if you would be interested in purchasing one, and what finish you'd like most. Brushed AL will be the least expensive of course, followed by fully polished and anodized colors being the most expensive. I have not decided if I should offer the anodized as it will drive up costs, but if the interest is there, then I will. I do not know the price for these yet, as I have not experienced the costs in actually making the panel, I only know the material costs for now. I was making this for myself originally, then decided I should see if other people wanted a copy, so my time in design will not be factored in the final price; just material and labor costs.

Heres one for the 205

Yours looks good, and id assume you can bring in the price a little lower.

10-09-2010, 05:17 AM
Yes, I am not trying to make a killing off of them or anything, so I'm hoping to be less expensive than the st205 version you posted! I will know more concretely once I have made a prototype or two.

10-09-2010, 05:18 AM
Yours looks a little better.

It seems more tightly fitted.

You may see some benefit by making the underpaneling a little stronger.

10-09-2010, 05:21 AM
Explain under paneling please, lol. Are you talking about the pieces under the engine bay, or just the lower piece of the cooling panel?

10-09-2010, 05:26 AM
At least on my 4th gen, there are panels that attach to the bumper and go back about halfway under the engine. They are made of a very thin plastic.

You may see some benefit stiffening these up, to control the flow of air through Intercooler/Radiator .

Just a thought you may consider.

10-09-2010, 05:28 AM
Ahh, yes I have been thinking of that as well actually. One part at a time for now though, lol.

10-09-2010, 05:35 AM
Once you Prototype this, get some measurements.

Im interested if it will fit my 4g

10-09-2010, 05:51 AM
Does the plastic one fit?

10-09-2010, 06:22 AM
I dont know. The 4th gen doesnt have a panel like this from the factory.

And i havent seen the damned thing in so long i dont know if its laid out the same.

10-09-2010, 06:31 AM
Lol, fair enough. Well, I'll try to get my hands on one to see if I can figure something out.

10-09-2010, 02:22 PM
I'd be interest in one. Brushed would be fine.

I'm surprise there haven't been more people chime in with interest as these things are in demand. Or at least it appears that way normally.

Keep me posted if you would please.

10-09-2010, 06:22 PM
Most likely because I posted it in the wrong section and at night when everyone has logged off, lol. I have it posted on alltrac.net as well.

10-09-2010, 06:59 PM
Moved to Custom Engineering/Design/Fabrication forum.

10-09-2010, 07:27 PM
i already voted in on alltrac.net

10-09-2010, 10:48 PM
I might be interested in one as well, underside panels would be pretty slick too.

10-10-2010, 04:31 AM
i would buy one under-body too

10-10-2010, 04:33 AM
If there's one in the works or planning for the st162/165 underbody I know at least 5 people that'd be interested in one (myself included).

10-10-2010, 04:58 AM
I'd buy a one and I'd be interested in under panels also

10-10-2010, 06:54 AM
nice design!

though im making mine in CF here in PI, i still think your design could be better.. :D

10-10-2010, 05:29 PM
I am definitely interested. I would like to know what the price will be and I would like to see a pic of your prototype installed.

I am also definitely interested in the under panels

10-10-2010, 05:50 PM
The prototype should be finished in just over a week, so I will have pictures up then!

10-11-2010, 06:12 AM
Designed these in Solidworks?

10-11-2010, 06:54 AM
Well, I designed it on paper, then just transferred it to SW, lol.

10-12-2010, 05:53 AM
Estimate on price?

10-12-2010, 06:09 AM
Not sure yet. I'll know more once I have the prototype made.

10-15-2010, 12:10 AM
cool cant wait to see this. my plastic one is a tad melted due to my dump tube snaping at a weld.. damn noob welder

Awesome! Did you use the sheet metal feature or just the extrudes, cuz you can specify bend radii and k factors in the sheet metal application to make everything really accurate.

10-15-2010, 07:14 AM
I actually just used the extrudes, I totally forgot about the sheet metal feature until I was all done and my buddy reminded me. I was like "doh!". Ha ha. Oh well, I will most likely redo it using the sheet metal feature soon if the prototype comes out off.

10-16-2010, 11:06 PM
I'm def going to buy one.
May be ricey, but I'm going to wrap it in carbon kevlar though.

10-27-2010, 03:51 AM
Well, I had to go to CA for a family emergency for a week! Sorry about the delay, but I should have prototype pictures up around a week from now! It's already programed for cnc, it just has to be made, and then I have to go get it, lol.

10-28-2010, 03:12 AM
Hope everything's OK with the family.
Awesome, Ive been waiting for someone to make these. Id do it myself but I have no resources to do it. Plus my cooling panel was lost when I moved from my old place...
Knew I should have put it back on lol...

11-19-2010, 02:01 AM
Well here is the prototype!

In order for it to fit, you need to change out four bolts that mount the hood cross member to the radiator support (Supplied with the kit). Here's the difference between the bolts:

Here is a low-light image of the prototype:

Here is the same picture, photoshopped to look like the production version. Notice that I made the center latch hole a little smaller, and eliminated two holes that were near it. They weren't necessary, and make it look a lot cleaner!

Here is a flash image of the cooling panel prototype!

The prototype has some scratches. The production versions wont! There will be a protective plastic film on the panels during manufacturing to keep them nice and clean!

Sorry for the night pics, I will get some daylight ones tomorrow! I can start taking orders now, as I'm ready for production. Just like most "one off" parts, I will need a small group of orders to make the first batch. We will be making the panels in batches, so the sooner you get order in, the sooner we can get it made! I've decided to keep a flat rate shipping charge of $8, so the panels will be $98 shipped anywhere in the 48 states. Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada will be and extra $7, so it will be $105 to ship to those areas. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate!

My Paypal is "stevemaxey[at]hotmail(dot)com". I will keep a list updated for the list of buyers! When ordering, please include which finish you'd like!

11-19-2010, 02:04 AM
BTW, these are very high quality parts, and are very sturdy! One forum member on Alltrac.net praised the quality, as he has seen it in person when he came by.

11-19-2010, 02:34 AM
what finishes are available? Are we making a list first then send money or we paying up front?

11-19-2010, 03:22 AM
Can you expand of the finish part?

11-19-2010, 03:23 AM
Finishes are plain, polished, and for an extra $25, you can have it powder coated. I personally would just get it in the AL, but that's the way I think it looks good, lol. The list will be started and updated as people make the orders. I only need 5 to start the first batch, so I'm sure I'll get that within a week, lol.

11-19-2010, 03:23 AM
Can you expand of the finish part?

Not sure what you mean here.

11-19-2010, 02:31 PM
I'd kill for a 4th Gen version of this. I'm working on baffling all the seams behind the radiator crossmember frame, but nothing ahead of it. One of these would be perfect for my ST165.

11-19-2010, 07:15 PM
If the 5th gen panel sells decently, and I can find a 4th gen local to me to work with, I will try to get one designed.

11-19-2010, 07:49 PM
Oh hell yeah! I know I'd be down for two. I'm sure there are cars around there. The nice thing is that the ST165 and the ST162 have the same front end.....so once size fits all. Is that the case with the 5th Gen?

11-19-2010, 08:17 PM
Yeah, it is the same for the 5th gen, lol. This panel is for any 5th gen :)

You need to get in contact with me regarding vendor status before I can let you offer these over here. Theres a rule about this sort of thing.

You phail! Check the Grown ups section lalz.

11-19-2010, 09:11 PM
I am not a vendor of any kind. Just a guy who's getting these made to help out the community. I was unaware of any kind of vendor rules, lol. I don't have an issue with this on Alltrac.net or Celispeed.com. So what's the scoop then?

11-19-2010, 10:52 PM

Yes these are high quality and damned sturdy. Yes I was the one who seen it in person.

I don't have an issue with this on Alltrac.net or Celispeed.com.

I've never heard of anyone having an issue of any kind with buying and selling on Alltrac.net....................................... ........................................ROTFL.

11-20-2010, 04:50 AM
well i want one let me know when to pay.

11-24-2010, 05:11 AM
How long will you have these?
I just got in a wreck and Ive been wanting one of these...
Hopefully next month Ill be able to order...

11-24-2010, 05:47 AM
I am not sure how long I will be offering them. I am making them in batches. As long as there is decent interest, I will keep making batches. Once interest is gone, I will keep selling the remaining panels I have from the last batch made, and that's it.

11-25-2010, 08:04 AM
Thanks, Ill probly order one off you next month sometime.
Hopefully around the 10th.

11-29-2010, 11:11 PM
Unfortunately there has been a slight delay due to us not being able to order the material until this week because the supplier was closed last week for the holiday. Sorry about that guys/gals!!! I'm trying to get these made and shipped as fast as I can!

12-11-2010, 02:05 PM

12-11-2010, 07:01 PM
Yes! Sorry, I thought I posted it already. I just received the panels last night, so over the weekend and maybe Monday I need to work on the finish of them, then ship them out! They should be shipped out by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest! I apologize for the delays, but they will be shipped out ASAP!

01-10-2011, 06:29 PM

01-10-2011, 09:31 PM
The fabricator is cutting out the new panels this week as well as doing some test bends on scrap aluminum to make sure he gets it right without marking up the panels. Hopefully he'll get them shipped to me by the end of this week or next week! I want this to be finished as badly as you guys, lol.

01-11-2011, 03:56 AM
Sweetness I am excited to see the product!

01-24-2011, 07:47 PM
Update: I got them in and will have them shipped out this week! Pretty busy this week, so it'll take me a few days to get them out, but no later than Friday! I'm happy I can finally get these out to everyone! Thanks to everyone for your patience!!!

01-24-2011, 08:32 PM
if you want i can swing by and you can get the measurements for the fouth gens......im sure there is alot of interest for these in the fourth gens. ill check on this for you.

01-28-2011, 12:41 AM
Here are pics of what is being shipped out! I didn't have everyone's address (I PM'd those members) so I'll have to ship out tomorrow, but they are all in boxes and ready to go! All I have to do is slap an address on them and they are gone!

I will say that there is a small lack of consistency in the upper most bend. They all fit still (I tested everyone to make sure), but some are a little "raised" from the core support. I apologize about this sincerely. I tried and tried to drill into my friends head that I needed these to be perfect, but it just didn't seem to do any good. They still look great, and fit. I just wanted to let everyone know why they aren't "perfect" like I was hoping. I honestly don't know if I'll do another run of these, due to the headaches I went through, but I hope everyone who did order one is happy with them! Please post pictures once you get them installed!!!

01-31-2011, 05:06 AM
It looks awesome!!!

02-09-2011, 02:48 AM
Im very thankful to have gotten one of these. Shows what kind of talent and resources we have on this forum. Looking forward to other "one of" projects that i can score for my car. Thanks again for the excellence product.

02-09-2011, 02:52 AM
I'm glad you like it! Please post up pictures of it when you have it installed! Thanks again!

02-09-2011, 02:59 AM
Any chance we are going to see under-body panels? The plastic one melt and crack, i would be down for them if you could have them made.
