View Full Version : Have you named your car?

I've only done it a couple of times to cars I feel fitting, and for some reason when I was pulling some metal on this one and throwing parts onto it, I had a friend helping me and I kept telling him "This is so o.e.m." It got to a point where I started calling it oem (pronounced oh-emm) a day or two later. So far I've only driven the car from the point where I've bought it, and back from my buddies garage that has a few better tools for body work and metal stretching.

Also, for the record, I bought this car and it looks like it went under a truck, minor frame damage and pushed in the drivers front corner a little, had to pull it back to get the headlight and fender to sit properly.

Why would I name a car?

Why would I name a car?

Because you have a sentimental attachment to a chunk of metal and plastic that has been mass produced with the best interest of a semi-specific crowd and you feel the need to somehow differentiate it as your very own with a name, rather than "The Celica," or whatever else you may drive.

Actually, the Alltrac recently earned itself a name. It is a combination of our other two cars names. Supra = Stinky (exhaust), Yaris = Junior (tiny and tries hard).. whilst burning oil that it was dripping on its own exhaust, my wife dubbed the alltrac "Stinky Junior".... kinda fits when you see a 4g celica sitting next to a MKIII supra.

Cool story bro, amirite??

Celica Prime. Long story short; I'm a huge Transformers fan and I recently upgraded my Celica, thus requiring a decent name.

If you really want the whole story check my project or another "named your car?" thread.

Ive named many cars partly because its easier to name and refer to a car when you have a stable of more than 3 of the same thing. Instead of saying "can you go move the red 89 supra" I can say "can you go move Lucy".

The second reason Ive named cars is the same reason men name ships. Not only is it bad luck not to, but its about a bond you share with something that carries you and protects you.

Like T-Spoon I tend to name cars for charactoristics or "personality traits" so I usually wait for a car to demonstrate something of a personality. Lucy, the red supra was named for Lucifer, because it was quite simply possesed and a devil car from day one. Finally, I like to try to include the licence plate letters into the name to help me remember it. My white 86.5 NA supra had the licence CBY109 and got the name Cowboy. Thanks to the name I still remember the licence plate even though I sold that car 3 years ago.

so yes, I name cars. My current alltrac is working on adopting the name Lilly after Littly Munster.

yes my 1988 celica gt is named revenge. my last car a 2002 escort zx2 was named sideswipe, while my girlfriends escort zx2 was named backlash. simple story to the escorts names mine got hit in the side had it fixed and got hit again in the same spot a week later. hers got rear ended six times in two months... my celica is revenge because my ex always wanted a celica convertible so i bought it to spite her :D

Chris and I have named every one of our cars since the very first cars we got when we were 16. We've always chosen names based on the personality of the car matched to people we have known.

And I agree with Facime when it comes to owning multiples of the same car. We currently have four Celicas; things would get pretty confusing if we didn't have names for them.
