View Full Version : Shock shelf life: opinions needed

I found a guy locally that's selling a set of Tokico shocks that are the same number as the Blues that fit the front of my Celica.

His, while bronze, are new in the box, but are from the late 80's or 90's.

He only wants $60 for them.

I know there is no warranty, but is that a good idea to buy shocks that are 20 years old but not used?

I cant imagine any way that they would go bad sitting for a long time. I had a set of KYB struts that had been discontinued for years that worked as new. Maybe the top seal if it was exposed to sunlight might be dried out? IF they dont look like they leaked, I would take a shot at em.

He sent me a pic and they still have the box, paperwork, and any plastic on the shocks, both a wrapper and anything that prevents them from expanding.

They are fine.

Use, not age kills a mechanical device.

The rubber would be the only part that could go bad, but if it was kept in the box, in the dark and out of direct sunlight, they will be fine.
