View Full Version : A little bit of history

So it seems that some members here have mistaken me for being a strictly 7th gen guy. Don't worry Chris, you weren't the only one. There area also new members that wouldn't have reason to know. So I will say that I have a pretty interesting tale of Celica history, and seeing as how a few members don't know that, I feel like it'd be a fun thing to kill some time and explain.

Back in late 1999, my pops decided he liked my sister. So he bought a mint condition 92 GT limited edition. He maintained that "It's my car, not yours. I just let you drive it". Well. He should have let me drive it because she put it through the ringer. All of my "female driver" jokes are at least loosly based on her. So. Long story short, she goes off to college and buys a different car. Now I get it in decent shape, but nowhere near what it was. At this point, I was in my high school days. Now, I never grew up building cars with my pops. In fact he once said to me, "I have the one and only tool you'll ever need if anything breaks on your car. I can get it all fixed with one tool. Here it is." BLAM. Plopps a phone book on the table.

And that's the way it went for a long time. I didn't know JACK about cars. All I knew was I have this car that I now have to take care of. And her name is Vanessa thanks to my sister. And here she is.

Bruce, you might recognize those wheels broseph!

Gotta love thinkin you can "fix up" a car with Walmart foglights right?

Sticker says "It's ok. I'm with the band". Again. Courtesy of my sister.

You should all feel very blessed as those are the only 3 pictures of my beloved Vanessa Rae currently in existance. Yes. I gave her a middle name. Why? Because I had a rule that I couldn't CHANGE the name. So I added one to make it a super sexy name. ;) So I bought her from my dad straight up for $2,500 cash and proceeded to blow a huge wad on labor to fix things.

But alas, V met her early demise in 2005 in two separate incidents. The first of which involved a milk delivery driver trying to retrieve a "water" bottle prior to getting to a stop sign, so he pushed the truck behind my car into my car, and still hit my car hard enough to move it forward a solid 15 feet. The milk delivery companies insurance totalled 'er out, but she was still driveable. All the damage was on the back. Actually, after the hit, she actually drove straighter. So I was just going to fix 'er up. I was just waiting on the check from the insurance. Day comes the check gets there, and I'm all pumped. That night we went bowling. I get out after the games and my car is WAY out of the space she was in. Some drunk guy hit and ran. Er well. Not really hit so much as backed completely over the hood and drove off the passenger side fender. So that was pretty much the nail in the lid of her coffin.

SO. The search began for another Celica because that one was... despite all her problems... a really fun car, and she attracted a lot of... something that rhymes with "wussy". That's where my 6th gen comes into my life. I found she was also fun to drive... and also attracted lots of that lovely thing that brought us all into this world. And so, to carry on the tradition of my first car, I gave her a first and middle name. She was dubbed Ashley Lynnette because of her straight up sexiness (due to the fact that I haven't met an ugly girl named Ashley), but she was also a royal... we can say it rhymes with "ditch"... hence the Lynnette. Because I've never met a nice girl named Lynnette.

The first thing I did to "pretty her up a bit" was take those wheels I still had from Vanessa and put those on her. Looks kinda funky with what seemed like a skyjacker suspension doesn't she? And again with the Walmart lights...

But she still looked better than the two hawnduhs if ya ask me.

That spoiler, which was crappily painted and even more crappily put on by the previous owner. Later on the wind decided to shave the spoiler for me, and give it to this weird guy 3 apartments over. And yes. There is a HIM sticker on it in this pic. It's not there anymore. Just sayin. The point of the picture is to illustrate the much better looking and much heavier Enkei GF1's I put on there.

Next mod up on the block was taking care of that ridiculously high suspension. So that went WAAAAYYYYY down. And I had a little fun with the camera.

I drove her from late 2005 on, but in early 2007 (after I started learning about cars so I could save some money) I came to the grim realization that she was in need of some major work. Unfortunately at the time I was not only working full time, but I was also a full time student. The place where I worked was definitely NOT geographically co-located with school. I knew that if I didn't get her fixed ASAP she was going to grenade an engine, and I'd be walking. LOTS. So I figured "I could spend about $8k on a little honda or something to get me by till I fix Ashley Lynnette, and when I'm done I'll just sell whatever I pick up".

Coming home from work one night I see this gem on the side of the road with a "For Sale" sign.

I looked it over, saw it was a GTS. Got all giddy like a Japanese school girl in a Hello Kitty factory. I thought "This is probably WAY out of my price range, but what the hell? Give it a call". Dude only wanted $6,500 for 'er. I took 'er for a test drive, absolutely LOVED it because of "OMGLIFT!" Thing ran like brand new. But the plan was still to fix up my Ashley and sell "The new one" later.

The rebuild on Ashley took a lot longer than I had planned due to work and school. So I wound up driving "The new one" around a lot. Then I took this picture, and that's what did it for me. After this picture I made up my mind to keep 'er.

I was staring at this picture and that's where she got the first name Allison from. Because she just looked like an Allison to me. So I asked random hot girls what their middle name was until one told me "... Rose...?" I replied, "BRILLIANT!" and immediately walked off. Strange guy, I know.

This is how they currently sit. Well... except they traded shoes which girls do on occasion.

This is my story as to why I'll wave to any Celica owner. Even being a "7th gen guy". And also why I stuck around here instead of just hopping over to NC.org. Nothing against that site. I'll just always be a 5th gen guy deep down. But it's also why, despite having a pretty nasty gash on the passenger side, I'm not letting go of my 6th gen. I'm also not letting go of the 7th gen, because she's done nothing but impress me. Still hitting lift at 177k on the ticker, and doing it like a champ.

But we haven't seen the end of Ashley Lynnette yet either. She's going to be in flying form for next years Dragon. And she'll be there in a much nicer color. I can't say that she'll be as pretty as Princess, but she'll give Princess a run for the money if I have anything to say about it. And in years to come she'll also have a 3s so she can actually keep up with Princess. Haha so yeah. There be my story of a completely coincidental 3 Celica run of my life so far... and also the weakest ending of a post that I've seen in quite some time.

You are still ghey.

I think what throws a lot of them off is the name change. For a lot of members, they remember names. So when NothingSpecialYet vanished, so did your 6th Gen. You essentially start over new.

Ahh yes, i still have those wheels. I like them because they are unique looking and nobody else has them.

That was a good story brotherman.

What you need to do is revive that old sig that i loved so much. The one where dude turns into a cardboard robot or something like that. That shiz was funny everytime.

I see those wheels all the time on Hyundai four doors...

Yeah, I forgot to put in that change of moniker.

Bruce. I liked those wheels. I had nothing against them at all. There weren't too many people out where I was either.

Yeah I remember that sig... I might have to try and go find that later on after work. Hahahaha

Murg... Noooooo, YOU'RE GHEY!!!!

Nice. So, it is kinda like my story.....

91 GT ----> 90 alltrac ----> 90 GTS ----> 96 GT ----> 88 alltrac (I think I have a problem....)

lol I don't think that I'll be picking up at 7g anytime soon though....

My wife has wanted a 7th gen GT for several years now. It is her dream car and has been since i met her. If all goes well she will have one for Christmas.

They're pretty fun cars. And they're actually a bit more roomy than the 5th and 6th gen. The driving position is also better for a guy as tall as me.

08-18-2010, 08:13 PM
 now you just need another 5g, a 4g, 3g, 2g, and 1g. You can start by giving me $600 for my pos st162

You know Allison is, and always will be, my favorite. Though I've grown a lot more fond of Ashley. And I had never seen any pictures of Vanessa. You told me 'bout 'er though.
Only thing that could make Allison better...is if she was painted black. Ahem :)

Funny, this almost felt like listening to you telling a story at the Dragon...

except you didn't get distracted :lol_hitting:

Funny part about that is, I actually did. I was in the middle of creating this post and took about an hour break cause the girlie wanted to Skype.

Livin' up to the mantra.... :)
