I've been thinking about doing the same thing. I found a set of bmw knockoff circular headlights that would work for $50 on ebay, I might purchase them and start playing.

The problem would be the grill since you would have to cut it in order to make it flush to the bumper following the corner lights.

can't say I like the Curen lights on that 5th. Makes it look too much like a honda, IMO the pop-ups are what make the 4th and 5th gens unique and sexay

Those Curen headlights make that 5th gen look like a fricken camry...

I like my pop-ups.. but I also like those flush headlights.. However it ain't inspection legal.. You obviously can't adjust the headlights easily.. They wouldn't allow it to pass at most shops.

I'd like a set of pop-ups that have dual lights inside.. Like what that guy did.. I guess either the BMW angel halo style headlights or like the Supra ones.. just inside of a pop-up housing that would be wicked.

Intresting. Some one photo shop a cs bumper on that curren and lets see if it looks any better. Personally if I had to mod the flip up head lights, I would like to have something like rayme's conversion but with stronger bulbs. and behind a glass encolsure to make it look stock. His didn't really light up the road too well. Also have them flip up with the sleepy look but aim perfectly straight. There should be a conversion out there for mr2 that leave their current flip up head lights. I wonder if it will work on 5th gens.

Luis C

They should fit, the housing/flip is more or less the same size, I also saw an MR2 with some projector and a low rise lamp that looked real sweet.

pretty cool and well done, though it makes the front look like a camry.

THat's what I said moralwarfare... get yer own words!!! :) Glad someone agree's with me.. it looks EXACTLY like a fricken camry.. I'd almost think that an entire camry front-end was converted on it.

 didn't see your post. i never knew the front ends of the camry and celi were so close until i saw the above pic, damn.

look at the corner light on the right side of the car. It's not flush at all. :ugh:

Ever look at a Lexus from the same era? Particularly the SCs? Toyota designers were using the same oval, smooth-sloped front shape on practically every higher-end/sporty car from the fifth-gen Celica until the current Solara came out.

If anyone wants to try and make some custom lights and are lookin for lights to use; if you can find the old beemer headlights that are round, they will be pretty bright.

OH holy shit.. this topic has been beaten to death countless times.. all that's left is hopping in its pool of mushy carcass goo.

The MR2 headlights are not shaped the same as the 4th or 5th gens.. so it will not fit. However, the concept can be used to fabricate your OWN flush-light conversion if you wish.. but that MR2 kit will not work.

Since both the Celica and the MR2 used 6054 sealbeams in their pop-up headlights, the same principles apply to both. Obriously measurements will be different at many points, but the interior dimensions are the same by necessity.

I Would really like to get a set of head lights like these on my celica. Thats what I'm talking about. I hate the flush housing. I prefer to keep the pop up. That kit is like 400 gbp. Thats waaaay too much money.

looks like 95/96 240sx in that first pic. I'd like a rectangular sealed beam, about half the size of stock, then have the sleepy eye come up to keep a low profile.

You could do that. Just use the smaller sealed beams. They are factory on gen 2 Celicas and older Camaros.

Thae. . . great work. Looks really clean!

did you use a lift timer, or custom pushrods to get the deired amount of lift?

thats almost exactly what I was thinking about doing. nice to see it implememted to I canget a better idea of what it would look like.

I used a custom rod. 6 inches are the opening.

The flush mount looks great, that's exactly what i thought of doing on mine. Then i saw the NSX lights and i'm now not sure which i'll put on, if i ever decide to change the stock ones.

Anyone consider using the lights out of the current Mazda6 -- they're tiny, the outer cover is maybe three inches high.

Doesn't it bother you that your hood sits crooked?

96celica
05-26-2005, 12:43 AM
its actually not the hood the bumper bracket wasn't inplace cause i didn't wanna have to fabricate one cause i have a c/f cooling panel on the way
that turns out it won't show up till june
so i have since made a bracket to hold the bumper in the correct place and its an even line now

Gonna be getting a braket made for the light housing, will put up specs in a couple of weeks, after I have taken some measurements. Unless someone has already done that and would like to share them.

Really? I like the supra headlights install... the trick is to cut into your fender to make the car seem wider...

96celica
06-03-2005, 07:35 PM
cutting the fender doesn't do anything to make it look wider?

to goal is to make cuts straight to match the lines of the headlight at the right tilted angle

The curren lights don't really flow with the round 5th gen body. They would work if it was more boxy, maybe a 4th gen.

While still ugly, that is the best job on this style of light I have seen to date. It retained the 5th gen look, AND the lower fin. I give it one thumb up. But it still isn't what the Celica was designed with. I prefer the pop-ups.

I think if he lost the lower fin, molded the bumper to meet the hood, and had the plexiglass meet the bumper it would look good.

well, I didn't expect pictures of my car to have made it around the net, but I guess you guys found me out, as the owner of the Curren-converted Celi :D

I finally signed up on this site, only because I'll be looking more into technical information on the 3SGE I'll be getting in the next couple of months. I'm in the process of purchasing a complete Curren ZS front-clip, because, as mentioned earlier, the headlights don't fit perfectly. So, rather than have a crazy amount of custom work done, I'm going all-out and doing the conversion right. And I get a JDM 3rd-gen 3SGE :D :D

hey, thanks for the welcome!

I read a comment earlier, that it looks like an s14 (240sx), and that's the reason I got them actually... I love the s14, and the fact that someone else noticed that, props go to you...

I've also heard the camry likeness, as well as the crapalier likeness... another reason I'm going full-out front end conversion, so then she'll look a little something like this:

and if you want more pictures of the Curren, I've saved all of them I've ever found and put them up on my site:

I think these might look really good on either a black celica OR if it were body-colored with a darkened strip on the front (to match the Faux-CF). That way they wouldn't stick out so much
