i have a 2.2l 93 gt. is there a difference between the headers for this and the headers for the 2.0? i constantly find headers for the 2.0 but none listed for the 2.2.... also could i use an aftermarket header for a newer model of celica? i read somewhere about the 2000's using the same motor...

No, the 2000s use a completely different motor.

The header for the 2.0 (86-89 3sfe, 3sge) Will mount to your engine, but you will have to have header back exhaust fabricated.

If you have emmissions this also deletes your primary cat (Its inside your OEM Exhaust Manifold) so you may have to put another one inline.

i was planning on fabricating everything else after the header anyways.... what do you mean the primary cat is in the mani? there is not a cat on the line below? if that is the case ill get a flowmaster one i suppose... i hear they do nice freeflowing cats....

The Cat is built into the Downpipe of the Exhaust Manifold.

The only thing inline later in the exhaust is a resonator.

looks like im buying a header and custom fabbing a new one.... what all do i need to pass emissions? just the cat and a muffler?

For the 5SFE 2.2L Celica engine, the primary catalytic converter is built into the exhaust manifold. It is the same as the 3SFE 2.0L design.

However the 3SGE 2.0L (the GT-S engine `86-89) is a different design.

In California you will also have an inline cat, for a total of two.

The Camry up until sometime in the 2000's used the same engine. And after a certain year came with a factory header, which is a popular upgrade. You have to fabricate after the downpipe though.

but in theory, i could use a magnaflo muffler and cat, and just fab from the header back, running a down pipe to a cat, into a straight pipe and into the muffler. would that be enough for every state but cali?

Yes that SHOULD be compliant with anywhere but Nazifornia

Come to WI anything pre OBDII doesn't need to go to emissions anymore!

i hate you all just a little for not having emissions testing

Oklahoma doesn't even check. Half of the farmers don't have cats because they can get hot and catch their field on fire.

Get the surewin products stainless steel header off ebay, it bolts right up.

Yea, i have the Surewin headers on my 5SFE. Only one problem with my install, getting the old header off. Broke 2 sockets, and used a can of WD-40. One downside to the surewin header is that there is no place for the cat. I could care less.....

are the designs different between the 3sge and 5sfe too? i looked into it once for a friend who wants to build a bottom mount turbo for the GTE in his MR2 and i seem to remember some of the 3s headers being 4-1 with the 5S headers being 4-2-1.
