hi guys . im new to toyota ownership and so far i love em. anyway i have a prob with excessive petrol usage. and being over here with our prices dont help. im getting about 23 mpg on my 1995 1,8 st . i think it may be the auto choke not going off but if anyone has any ideas at all. ive cleaned the air filter ( k&n ) spark plugs are new . i know it needs a new dizzy cap and rotor and new leads are planned . i know the engines not the best one to have but its a lovely drive apart from the fuel prob

yeah 23 is kinda low for an st o2 sensor when where they last replaced

never thought of that . no idea of replacement but many of the other ancillaries are the original ones so i cant see the 02 sensor being done. although im fairly good at mechanical stuff ,things like sensors are beyond me so if poss could you explain to me how it affects petrol use . im assuming the sensor is located in the downpipe of the exhaust and if faulty doesnt send a signal to the ecu to adjust the mix ?

yes it helps control the air/fuel ratio and if its bad ecu will run rich to prevent knock there is one before the cat and one after it if either is bad it could be affecting ur mpg's
