pull the transmission out the bottom/side. follow the instructions in the bgb on here. other than that its pretty straight forward. the trans in these cars are really light too.

Good. I've just never done a clutch before, so I don't know what to expect, I assume I'll need to pull axles, so trans fluid is needed?

Yes. Drain the fluid, pull the axles out of the steering knuckles then the trans.

Unbolt the trans from the motor and mounts, then drop it out through the bottom.

While you're in there, might as well buy new axle seals for the trans too...

*Correct me if I'm wrong Bugs.

you have the basic idea there, there is a lot more detail to it than that but the bgb should be able to help with most of it. make sure you lable the bolts you take off in plastic bags so you know where they go back in.

if they are not leaking you dont need new seals.

True, but if they're old though removing & reinstalling the axles you run the risk of damaging & causing a leak.

I'd also replace the rear main while you're in there.

im with smaay, dont replace anything if its not leaking

I just hate going in twice for something that I could have been done the first time around.

But that's just me :)

i would say to do it on any other engine but the 2zz and the 6spd are prett good about not leaking. a 5s or 4a on the other hand are very prone to leaks

Ugh, have fun....I've done this 3 times already, last time I actually got the trans up and in place by my self first try.
