Well I did finally install my new radiator in the GT today.

I was worried because the darn thing was supposed to get here Friday and when it didn't I thought I'd be stuck the whole weekend - but lo' and behold good old FedEx delivered it on Saturday so I'm in business!

So I put the thing in without too many problems - tho comparing the new one to the old one there were some differences - most notably the the new "Koyo" RAD seems to have less metal than the OEM unit. The Koyo is about 1/4" less thick than what I took out.

Also I had thought from reading that the Koyo was all aluminum - but that is not the case - it has plastic top and bottom tanks same as OEM. Still - the thing was EXACTLY like OEM as far as the connections were concerned - every hose and bolt lined up exactly - so installation was a breeze. I would've got another eBay radiator for ~$40 less - - but with much worse return policy - so we'll just see how that goes. For now - it looks good - the thing just dropped right in and seems to be working fine.

One "funny" thing tough - the darned radiator cap was different!

My 5SFE cap would not fit this new radiator - I had to use the new cap I bought at the Knoxville Pep Boy's that would not fit my 5SFE OEM radiator! I guess now that all the parts houses are "assuming" that everyone with a 5th gen Celica has a 4AFE type radiator neck. So maybe my OEM 5SFE radiator cap is now a "collectors item"?

Luckily also - I had plenty of water and anti-freeze - got to say that I'm "stocked up" in that department. :)

Ok = so here's some pics:

The old and the new radiators (connections):

The old and the new radiators (thickness):

The "new" rad cap that all the parts houses seem to think ALL fifth gen Celica's use:

The ACTUAL rad cap that an original 5SFE car would need:

While I had all the splash pans off - I noticed this - I think I need a new engine mount:

Another couple of comparison shots between the two radiators - showing the necks:

The NEW radiator neck that is shallow and takes the 4afe type cap:

Th OEM 5SFE radiator neck that is deeper:

Koyo makes all kinds of radiators. Unless you got an all aluminum racing radiator it's an OE replacement.

I think that's Performance Radiator. I seem to remember a cactus on the coupe's. I'll have to look at that tomorrow.

I'm fond of 1-800-radiator personally, but only because every time we order one they give me candy. :hehe:

the caps are 2 different versions for the same car. yours was the early model and the new one is the late model. i had the same thing happen with my alltrac
