Well you can get the celica supra thats built on a 3rd gen platform but Jason just has a 3rd gen Celica.

He has the 2.2 liter I think (a 22r is a 2.2 isnt it)

Blackcloud

its the celica supra. due to the supra wheels and interior. but its a 2.4L I4

i thought the celica supra had the 5m-ge I-6? and that the gt-s came with the same wheels as the celica supra?

i just thought all the 22R(E) ones were still just celicas (st, gt, or gt-s) and just different in options, and whether they had flared fenders, IRS, etc. whereas the supra addition to the name only went with the extra cylinders, and different front end, etc ?

nope the Celica Supra came with the 2.8L I6 (5MGE) rated from 150-161 hp ;) but they are more fun when you upgrade to a 6MGE (3.0L I6) or a 7MGTE :D

No, an 18R is a 2.0 liter, a 20R is a 2.2 liter. A 22R is a 2.4 liter.

I have a 22R, but my car came stock with a 20R (1975 Toyota Celica GT or RA22).

82 celica = 22r

83-85 had 22re....22r was bae motor in the st i think

celica supra has a 5mge

22re = best all around 4 cylinder toyota ever made

3rd gen = most solid celica ever made

GT4SOM
12-26-2004, 07:59 PM
I beg to differ, I think the 5th gens can take alot more abuse. Pretty solid car.

12-26-2004, 08:31 PM
they cant, sorry

u have a leaking head gasket at less than 150k

ive seen a 22re with over 600k on it, no rebuild, just normal maintainace work done

Blackcloud
12-29-2004, 05:20 AM
mine went 180k before i blew the motor. and that was my fault because i was rodding the shit out of it when i first got her. prob would of made it to well over 200k with me driving normal

yeah im new to the board as well im a 3rd gen owner i owned an 84 hatchback celica gt with a 22-REC engine in it bought it for 150 bucks had a spun rod bearing so i rebuilt the engine the body of the 84 was in bad shape came across an 85 celica gt coupe with no engine bought it and put the 22-REC engine from the 84 into the 85 it worked out great just got the windows tinted and just bought a header for the 22_rec from pace setter looking to find a way to do a cold air intake soon as the header is in place so if any of you 3rd gen guys know any way of getting a good cold air kit or making one for the 22_REC lemme know thx

Blackcloud
02-01-2005, 12:36 PM
The rec is just the re with cali emissions package aint it?

Demz
02-02-2005, 06:24 AM
the "C" means it meets cali emission standards. all stock 22r-e meet the emission standards. they usually dont put the "C" on there, cuz ppl who dont live in cali probably dont care that their car meets cali emissions :hehe:

sorry for weird sentence structure, im tired, and im sick :puke:

85CelicaGT
02-02-2005, 06:47 PM
yeah lol i never thought about what the C ment lol not that it meets emissions anyway cause it has no cat lol so yeah ita a 22R-E but any one who wants a header do not buy from pace setter it will not fit it gets in the way of the steering bar i found that out so im kinda angry that it didnt work out but i would not mind trying to get a cold air intake sys on it but we will see i may end up selling it

Demz
02-03-2005, 05:32 AM
gets in the way of the steering bar? sounds like it was made for a 4runner or a toyota pickup

85gtsblackman
02-04-2005, 03:00 AM
actally the 22re has decent stock exaust manifold, the problem is the colector pipe in the 3rd gens, its crushed due to the stearing system, so its only like a half inch to an inch in dia.

thats the major exaust restriction, that and the long section of crushed 1 inch pipe

ocb_dave_ocb
02-04-2005, 03:10 AM
I Have to say Me 5sfe 5th gen 92 is still running with well over 350,xxx Miles on it.. My old 94 pickup had a 22re and it had 160,xxx on it and didnt drop a bit of oil.. IMO they're both great motors...

85CelicaGT
02-04-2005, 04:06 AM
yeah they run forever and mine is running ok but only has about 75k on a rebuilt engine that i did i also have 2 inch exhaust im think about putting a raven muffler on it cause i work at midas and we sell those we also sell flowmaster but i like the raven sound better as far as the manifold is concerned it is a good one but that restriction is the reason i wanted the header but it may be for a 4 runner or a pickup just because it says it is for a 2.4L dont mean its for a celica but i ask the place i bought the header from and they said it dont fit the GTS only the GT well the jokes on them it dont fit the GT either lol

85CelicaGT
02-04-2005, 04:08 AM
Demz your car is sweet looking how much money do you have into that thing and does it have the 22 R-E you should get a Turbo off the toyota trucks that had a turbo with the 2.4 that would be sick my sister has an 84 Hatchback GT-S but does not look that good lol

Blackcloud
02-04-2005, 04:06 PM

thanks, the money into my car?

Body: ~$6000
Engine: $1600

ive only started doing engine work, ive got alot more things on my checklist still. i hear the turbos on the pickups arent very great, i think i might just get an after market one.

i personally wouldnt bother with a 22r-te. only +20-30 hp, and not very reliable at all. the turbos dont run good after extended periods and has no intercooler. sounds alot easier to just turbo a N/A 22r-e

85CelicaGT
02-08-2005, 03:01 AM
well i suppose i hear they are good but you guys seem to know more than me lol i just drive my celica and try to make it look good and go fast

85gtsblackman
02-08-2005, 03:19 AM
ok u do realize that the stock 22re makes 160hp but its only at 6 psi

the engine is bomb proof ive seen a few with over 200k, and i know a guy with one thats all orginal with normal maintainace with over 400k

i think u got sum wrong info

i want a 3rd gen :(

Demz
02-08-2005, 04:39 AM
i know that the engine is durable im talking about the turbo being unreliable. being a dry turbo it has overheating issues.

the 22R-E makes 116 hp, the 22R-TE makes 135-140 hp

85CelicaGT
02-09-2005, 04:46 AM
well stx man ill sell you my car if you want lol ha plus my engine makes 125 hp yeah thats right lol all i need to do is put a little bigger cam and a cold air intake and will get 140 range lol

$1000 for paint and materials (sandpaper, activator, etc. paint gun not included, my dad already owned one), labor not included since my dad and i painted it

i actually got a discount on the paint since my dad knows the guy we bought it from. i think i was sposed to pay around 1200-1400

Demz
02-19-2005, 06:21 AM
hmm they all should have rear disc, maybe it was repaired from parts from a an older model? :ugh:

heres a quote from Celica-GTS.com

The RA6x Celica's and MA6x Supra's have great braking systems. The earlier Celica's had disc brakes in front and drum brakes in the rear. The later Celica's and all Supra's had disc brakes on all four wheels.

where early = 82/83 and late = 84/85

ive got a question for you. how did you get a 7m-gte into your supra? did you have to swap the whole engine or just the heads, manifold, turbo, etc? also how does it perform compared to the 5m? i believe thats the swap hes looking into, that or 2jz.

zank
02-27-2005, 05:50 AM
well the 7MGTE swap isnt as hard as some people make it seem. If your brother is interested tell him to visit celicasupra.com there is TONS of info there on the swap and just about every thing else about the mk2 supras. I swapped over the entire engine and Transmission off a 89 Supra turbo. the engine bolts right on to the car but the trans needs a little modding to make it fit (nothing mr hammer couldnt fix)

as for the difference between a stock 5MGE and a 7MGTE is like driving a whole new car, but with BALLS (much more fun to drive)
