View Full Version : might buy at 6th gen, pull manual trans, then get rid of it

my brother is dating a girl who has a black 1995 celica gt. it has a dent in the driver door and in the driver quarter panel. the leather seats have some tears in them. the paint is clean. the motor is clean. the girl does not have a title but the title is clear. apparently the car was given to her ex-husband by a person who owed him money. the ex husband never swapped the title into his name and is long gone and abandoned the car.

that being said, i have not looked at the car yet but will go look at it tuesday. i ran the vin # my brother gave me and the car is clean.

i more or less would want to buy this car primarily for the manual transmission swap into my car. i would then likely get rid of the car. i could go the distance and swap my auto trans into it, idk.

the girl wants $500. i will likely only pay $250 or less given the circumstances with the title. the trans also needs a clutch.

anyway, i am gauging interest in the car after i pull the trans and all needed parts for the swap. i'm not exactly sure of what parts will work on the 5th gen besides the trans. if i get rid of it i will only ask for what i paid or less. i will not part it out. i do not have time for that.

I would suggest swapping your auto trans in it and then selling it as a running vehicle.

Looks like a fair deal though.

i agree it doesnt look in bad shape. you may be able to make some money if you put auto trans in it and sold it running. maybe do your swap for "free" if you can make enough off it

No title tho.

Dunno about where he lives, but no title in Tennessee means not street legal.

If that were to be the case i may be interested if you go the distance to part it out.

Im interested in a cheap 5s short block.

I'd say buy it, and part it out, you could break even since you have an interested party for the motor already.

This is tempting.... I've already got a 5g parts car.... Maybe I need a 6g parts car?
