what are usually the estimates on car painting jobs by a body shop. i'm looking to get my car right now, it's paint completely strip out to the metal and repaint it by a shop. do you guys know how much these jobs usually cost? i live out in the farm so driving to get a estimate is probably quite a drive. i'm hoping 5grand or less..basic toyota color black.

getting it done right and professionally. i don't like to keep repainting over the old layer as it will have a thick layer. i'm not a car body type guy so i'll leave that to the pros...

Do the body work yourself. It will drastically cut down the price. Then have it painted professionally.

There are books.

you could also check your local forums and ask around for any small body shop that paints and usually someone will recommend someone with a good reputation.

Body work is a fancy way of saying sanding and bondo if you have dents.

All of the real work is body work. Painting is the easy part :)

seriously, search it in google. Its easy, just EXTREMELY tedious. If you don't want to take the time and do the work then you gotta pay the money and if you don't have the money its not gonna turn out the way you want.

If you have a Toyota Body Collision Shop that's a great place to go. I had my car fixed there. I was nervous about the paint matching and stuff (I have a Teal Celica) but when it rolled out...it looked factory fresh! Nice....

Mine was Econopaint.

With the exception of 1 fisheye and one bug (mosquito sized) getting stuck in the paint it looks great.
