Have a customer who purchased a 3sgte to drop in a 91 normally aspirated MR-2. Having trouble locating correct parts for engine like t-belt, thermostat, etc. Have ordered these for every year of MR-2 and Celica All-trac from our trusted dealer (doing business with them since 1995) but all the parts are wrong. Possible we received a Japanese 3sgte and if so, how to identify and order engine parts? Any help would be appreciated.

Japanese and USDM are essentially the same for those parts. However, it may be possible that you have a newer generation 3sgte from a newer model we did not get in North America.

If you can post a pic of the engine we would be able to tell you what version of 3s you have, and can direct you to the correct part #'s for the stuff you need. :)

The timing belt is the same for all the 3sgte engines. Likely you received the wrong one.
Thermostat will differ depending on generation.

As ChrisD said, if you post photos we can give you more information. :)

the timing belt is one tooth shorter on the gen 3 3sgte. this is probably what you got since they are very popular right now.

Seriously? 1 tooth shorter?

Damn. Now that is just a bit odd.
Is that due to the additional sensors they have in there? (cam pos)

Didn't know that. Good info.
