Hey guys, been a while, i know. I have been gone from the site for a while, been busy with life and such!

But, just figured I'd start a build thread for the 5sfte that I am finally putting together.

I have a 5sfe out of a 99 camry i will be parting out, I've heard the blocks are stronger so I will be using that.

I just purchased the CT-26 turbo, Aussie DP, 2BAR map sensor, oil pan and lines, 460cc injectors, 255LPH fuel pump, and emanage blue, and I am waiting for shipment.

I need an FMIC with piping along with a lot of other things, but I figured I'd start here so I can get some advice from the all-knowing celica experts here! :)

Build won't start till spring, car hibernates until the snow is gone, but I will post pictures.

I am also working on an '84 Pontiac Trans Am that I just got, so my hands are full with projects right now. I gave up on the Mazdaspeed 6 and traded it in for a 2010 Subaru Impreza wagon because it was more suitable for a DD. and cheaper.

nice talking to you guys, I hope to stick around this time! lol

So you are tearing the whole engine down and still keeping the 5S head?

So you are tearing the whole engine down and still keeping the 5S head?

thats the plan so i don't have to deal with harness issues.

plus i can't find a decent priced 3sge/gte head anywhere. and if i decide to, if i want more power, i can always do that later.

what all is needed to turbo the 5sfe ? the 3sgte manifolds (both intake and Exhaust)? which turbo to run on a DD

Check MR2oc.com for some great info on the 5SFTE. Good luck on the project.

with a ct-26 , and the 91 celica your starting with (no knock sensor) i would definetly downsize the injectors. somthing ~360-390cc would be ideal IMO.

Your build is screaming for a bigger turbo. You can probably get similar spool from from a gt28rs or something around that size. The ct-26 is going to choke your 2.2L imo.

Good luck with the build tho. And great choice for a DD. A suby is about the best all-around car dd money can buy.

so a little update...........

I ended up getting 315cc injectors from a 7MGE, a 27x8" intercooler, and some clamps and hoses...

i am still waiting on the 2bar map sensor and other goodies...

I ended up toasting the original engine with seafoam, now it blows oil straight out the pipe... :) so the build HAS to happen now..

since i've not been on, new stuff to the car is springs and spacers...

heres some eye candy

Never heard of seafoam killing a motor, but I would imagine it is possible. Guess thats more reason to rebuild.

Love the clean nature of your ride. Going to keep it that way?

oh yes, clean and simple.

the intercooler was from ebay... not sure if i will use it yet

soooooooo.... its been a while since i've been on here..

I never got around to doing the build, even though I have all the parts except the MAP sensor...

I moved into a new place, and now have more room and my own driveway to install this. I hope to get going on it in the Spring.

Never got wheels, either. I like the stockies for now until i find something that sticks out... any suggestions?

No further updates on the car at this point. It is under a car cover and 2 feet of snow at the moment, so I have to wait til all that is melted before I see it again :(

Thanks for reading!!

I really like these (http://www.5zigenusa.com/english/products/wheel/5zigen/fn01rc.html) wheels, but they're going to discontinue them soon. When I get around to buying wheels, it's what I would really like to have on the MR2.

my first question... are you using the stock cast pistons? if yes, i'd be VERY shy of pushing the boost near 6psi or higher. some local guys have done the exact same setup and decided to up the boost to 10psi and it melted a piston or 2.

so, as you can guess my suggestion, if you are not already, please get some forged pistons. :)

That is actual inaccurate. If you look over on 6GC.net they have been pushing the limits of the 5SFTE build for a few years. As long as you manage your fuel and timing properly, than you should be safe with moderate boost. Manny (presure2) was pushing 15psi on stock internals for a few years and many thousand miles. He also pushed the car pretty good in that time, one time even hitting ~8k RPM after a missed shift at the track. As long as you don't rush things and you properly tune, then you should be safe running around 10-12psi, similar to a stock 3S (At lease in my opinion). Saying that, I would be a bit more careful on the earlier 5SFE engines as they have no knock sensor to help save the engine. In those cases you may want to look into installing a J&S Safeguard to pull timing and protect your engine.

At the beginning of the thread there was some talk about getting a 3S head, I would recommend against this. Either do the 5SFTE and run on the 5S ECU (or standalone) or do a full 3S swap. Doing the hybrid 5SGTE will definitely take a lot of effort and grief, for minimal benefit.

Anyways, that is my 2 cents and am more than willing to answer any questions that someone may have. I spent a few years following Manny's success and researching the 5SFTE build as I was planning on one for my '95 celica that I have since sold.

awesome info. i only plan to run the stock wastegate and not using an MBC to up the boost... i have looked into the knock sensor issue, and have some options lined up to kill power when it happens, which i hope it doesn't.

my dream would be to rock a BEAMS 3sge someday... but we will see :)
