How much would it cost to rebuild an engine on a 96 Celica?

My engine died on my way to school. :(

What happened? Depending on what happened, may be cheaper to just buy a replacment engine (rod knock, hydro-locked, etc).

If you blew a HG, that's not too bad to replace at all.

buy a replacement low mileage engine from a place you trust( running doner is better). i spent over $1200 rebuilding my engine, new main and rod bearings ($130), all new gaskets and seals and head gasket($150), new head bolts($16), new piston rings($30), new rod ($40), rebuilt head with re-serfice ($330), new timing belt($30), used re-serficed flywheel($12), new stage 1 clutch($130), new half shaft($60), tools ($100), brake clean-oil-degreaser-coolant($100). that's most of it and i did all, but the head work, myself.

just drop in a new motor and call it good.

whats wrg with it?? and welcome the the site I was driving on my way to school and the check engine light came on and 2 seconds later the car turned off.

The car turns on without the check engine light, but you can hear a strange sound coming from the engine. :(

Welcome. The more detailed you can be about the problem the better guys can help you out. Will it crank over with the starter? Do you have spark? If not have you checked if the timing belt broke? Easiest way is to take off the Distribitor cap and then turn over the engine If the rotor turns the belt is good. What type of strage sound is it when you are trying to start it? Is it coming from the intake or inside the engine?

Retrieve the code that was thrown.

E1 and TE1 bridged in the diagnostic port under the hood, will flash out the code on the dash via the check engine icon.
