Ouch :(

01-09-2010, 11:23 PM
We have a couple members out that way I believe...

Sorry to hear the clutch went. Still better than the motor going though.

01-10-2010, 05:09 AM
that's not so sad. at least now you have a good reason to for a new clutch. it'll be like driving a new car afterward.

01-10-2010, 12:25 PM
i hate not having my car and asking for rides to go to work.

01-10-2010, 01:47 PM
Sucks man but the bright side is time a stage 3 lol

01-10-2010, 03:43 PM
Ehh thats not to bad. Now rod knock or something like that is sad. A clutch can only last so long and it just means its time to upgrade.

i hate not having my car and asking for rides to go to work.

now that does suck.

01-12-2010, 04:36 AM
Are you sure it's not just the clutch slave (or master) cylinder?

01-12-2010, 04:57 AM
Clutch > engine rebuild anyday man.

i can feel you on having to ask for rides though. Does suck.

01-12-2010, 06:02 AM
nothing but a days work with no air tools! although an impact would def be nice to have...i hate you rusted bolts!

01-12-2010, 03:07 PM
my boy look at it. he will do it for $375 that habor. my friend say to go with a spec clutch stage2. is that clutch is any good?? let me know what clutch i should get. i was thinking going with a stage2.

01-12-2010, 03:21 PM
I dont like Spec clutches. they have alot of problems on the 7th gens. Im a huge Southbend Clutch fan. i have one in all my cars. dxdracingclutches.com a simple TZ clutch is all you need. its a little bit more clamping force but the pedal feel is awesome!

01-12-2010, 04:42 PM
southbend ftw! ive had 3 and they are all still working! (celica 3s, 1jz supra, eg civic) spec clutches blow apart.

01-12-2010, 04:53 PM
why not do it yourself?

01-12-2010, 05:05 PM

My buddy had a spec clutch in his 240 and had problems with it, I went stage 3 clutchmasters for my 3S and its great

01-12-2010, 09:14 PM
dont buy a spec, im a fan on southbend dxd clutches though. the one in my alltrac is a beast.

01-12-2010, 09:14 PM
my alltrac is currently sitting in my garage because of a bad spec clutch...didnt last very long before it went either...I would stay away from spec

01-12-2010, 10:13 PM
Stay away from the Spec clutches - I have had bad experience with them - always blow the springs out of the clutch plate for me.

01-13-2010, 02:19 AM
From what I've heard from the All Trac guys, the Spec clutches suck dog's balls. I haven't heard anybody have anything good to say about them.

I've got an Excedy in mine. I've been happy with it. I know a lot of guys like the Southbend as the posts above show.

01-13-2010, 06:15 AM
if i go with the southbend which one i should choose the rally series/ tz series/ ofe series ???

01-13-2010, 06:26 AM
Get a South Bend Clutch!! They make those about ten minutes from my house!

01-13-2010, 04:50 PM
Southbend seems to be one of the better aftermarket clutch companies for our cars.

If youre just going for a replacement OE type clutch, you cant beat an exedy OE replacement clutch. Theyre cheap.

If youre looking for a little more balls, then southbend is a good one.

I also have had good experiences with ACT, and so have the DSM guys, who abuse the FACK out of their clutches on launches too.

Ive personally seen specs fail, and Ive also seen clutchmasters fail (Playfortodays alltrac had a clutchmaster stage3 in it and it popped a spring JUST like specs like to)

Spec might have cleaned up their act, as I havent read anything bad about them lately.

I put a stage3 spec clutch in Borinals MR2 awhile back, and he doesnt have it anymore, but the guy who does have it drives it all the time and it hasnt given him any issues.

01-13-2010, 05:24 PM
I ran a Spec stage 2 with my MR2 transmission for about 70k miles, worked great!

I now have a Spec Stage 4, unsprung 4 puck clutch thats on my RC alltrac tranny AND I used the old spec stage 2 pressure plate for about the last oh 40k miles... Works GREAT.

Love my spec clutches...

01-13-2010, 05:25 PM
Also with OEM new TO bearing of course...

01-13-2010, 05:37 PM
Never seen an issue with ANY aftermarket unsprung clutch.

So, if youre going unsprung, pick your poison.

01-13-2010, 06:19 PM
I have the stage 2 Southbend Clutch in my N/A MR2, it's been GREAT so far.

01-30-2010, 05:38 AM
ok everyone sorry that i didnt post right back been bissy working. i end up buying the southbend clutch stage2. so got got back from work and i got the clutch today :D . i will post some pics of it. now time to enstall the clutch and get the celica back on the road. so i can stop driving my mom camry.

01-30-2010, 06:14 AM

i remember when i lost the clutch on my celica... it sucked bad.. had to keep going up gears to get it to try to grab and not slip

01-30-2010, 07:49 AM
man I remember when I first got my celica like 5 years ago thinking I would need a new clutch and still haven't had to replace it. Bummer about pushing the car home nonetheless

02-02-2010, 04:50 AM
hear the pic of the clutch

02-02-2010, 11:32 PM
Hmmm I thought I would find more Exedy support in here... but southbend is the the way huh?

02-02-2010, 11:53 PM
My exedy oem replacement seems to be a good clutch, had it in my Nissan for two or three weeks now. i have a Exedy stage one for the MR2 but it isn't installed yet.

02-02-2010, 11:53 PM
I have to say that I really like my Exedy clutch.
