MY beloved first car and joy has been in a garage since March 2005. I recently removed her and took her to my new house. That was a week ago. since then I have begun to disassemble her.

Here is the inside as of yesterday:

I have gone nuts.........the Red Rocket is a part of my persona. But all the time since has allowed me to save money, move up in life. It was really the only way to preserve the car and get her back to her proper status. That said, it had to happen like that. I might not be here talking to you today if the events didn't unfold accordingly.

More pics will come as the Red Rocket come back to life (I hate showing her in a delapidated state).

Anyone catch the thick layer of dust on the dash? The driver side window was left open in the garage the entire time it sat in there.

Grot, that is original black leather from the GTS' and Alltracs. No dyeing required ;)

I'm not lucky. I just have the cash and the patience to find the right parts for a car that is intended to be as close to perfect showroom quality condition as possible when finished.

Well guys and gals, I have everything cleared from the sides of the 3SFE and from the front save for the cool ant lines. I'm debating whether or not to get a Key unit now or later. Other than that I have the S53 axles out and I expect to pull the ok' workhorse out this coming week. That was a good little engine that was as tuned as possible. I suppose I'll try to unload it; no reason for it to rot in the workshop.

Yeah, buddy....only as she develops. She has 5 years of dust, rust, and many more pock marks, dings, scratches that I have to take care of. No center-fold close-ups in this issue. I will be photographing the individual jobs as they take place. I'll get engine bay photos tonight.

So I'm lazy and haven't uploaded the pics from the camera. But I have been working. Right now I'm waiting for a clutch release hydraulic line, a new rear brake line, a couple of new mounts, some A/C hoses, and some other miscellanous items. After those arrive the engine can go in. It could go in now, but there are things that should be installed without it in at the moment. I power sprayed the engine bay; It looks pretty good considering the 20+ years of grime that built up in there. I have assembled my hybrid LSD axles. I swapped my ST202 alternator for a ST215 alternator so that I can run cooling ducts to it. I'm getting ready to create shift cables shims out of shift cables retainers. I'm going to dremel out the inside edges to accept the larger diameter portion of the shift cable stay/end. i'm also getting ready to dremel out an air intake temp port on my intake tube. Once the stuff is here I am a mere hours away for start up. Then it's trouble shoot. After that is paint shop.

That's not all of it. Only as much as I had patience to take pictures of. I hate doing it, but everyone here would kill me if I finished the project without photos.

The 3SGE is coming! Don't worry Rus, it is almost time to drop it in.

Yeah I'm jealous. :P

I have my replica set of vinyl decals, but the colour would look out of place with my rims. I think I might get them remade in dark grey and sell the midnight blue ones.

So that heated seats switch. Seriously is that a 16x part? If not, how in the heck did you find the surround to fit in so perfectly?

RedRkt01
06-11-2010, 10:04 PM
Well, I don't mean to toot my own horn here....well, actually, I do......but I am that friggin awesome when I comes to sourcing TOYOTA parts. Any TOYOTA parts.

Really, it is about patiance and perseverance. Having a hunch also helps. Remember, I have had the car locked up in garage prison for five years along for my zest for driving. That's a long time for anybody to have their mind locked up in garage prison. Naturally, you think about all the things you're going to do when you get out.

I did a fair amount of digging to find out what north american models, if any, shared parts with cars we can't get over here. E-ST205s got heated seats......and so began my search.

Well fellas, after many weeks on hiatus I have gotten back to the grind on my project. Last night I installed the engine into the car. Tonight I'll be connecting all the attachments and restoring power to the car. It'll be good to roll of the windows as they've been down letting dust inside for months now. Other than that I'm pretty much ready to start her up. After that I'll need to tighten up the front swaybar and install the axles. I haven't built the axles yet so that'll probably get done this weekend. I'll likely also refill and bleed the brakes this weekend as they've been empty for a long time.

Done:
4 lug rear discs
Rear swaybar upgrade
Rear endlinks upgrade
Rear tower bar
Front tower bar
Front swaybar upgrade
SS brake lines all around
Engine install
SS clutch line

I don't think I'll be getting to the poly bushings any time soon. I just want to get into the car and drive it for a while. Five years out of the drivers seat has a considerable amount of withdrawl associated with it.

RedRkt01
09-23-2010, 03:33 PM
I got the tranny side of the engine all hooked up. Fuel, Cooling, Elec, Vaccum all got done with one exception. I can't figure out where to do mount the Igniter and Coil. they are mounted on the same ST202 bracket and thus are together. I can't find anywhere to mount these suckers. The Cusco front bar doesn't give me any room on the firewall.........dunno what to do so I guess I'll just keeping thinking about it......

Sorry about the teasing, Chris.....I'm bad about that. But its because I'm lazy with the camera. I also don't like using it when my hands are filthy from working on the car.

They aren't in the best condition, but I have tried to take care of them since I got the car 13 years ago. I'm so glad my dad bought these with the car. He's pretty cheap (hence the 3SFE in what is otherwise a GTS save for the seats) so its a surprise that I have them lol.

Some of the wiring work I still have to:
http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp80/redrkt02/Celica053.jpg

I have to install the ST165 coolant overflow tank to replace the ST162 unit due to the size of the 3SGE. This engine bay is gonna be stuffed!

Sorry so many of these pics were fuzzy. I deleted the ones that were even worse. The camera, which I bought less than a year ago for something like $250, sucks donkey dick. It is supposed to have a feature that will compensate for my hand moving ever so slightly, but it never works. Samsung can go screw itself with my $250.

I had a pic of the inside of the RH door that I can't find. It displayed the slot where the 4th Gen JDM automatically retracing side mirror computer will sit. That's right y'all. I said AUTOMATICALLY RETRACTING SIDE MIRRORS. Did you guys catch that? I have AUTOMATICALLY RETRACTING SIDE MIRRORS that are specific to only select 4th Gen JDM Celica GT-Rs and GT-Fours.

I also am installing the auto retract window for my passenger. You can see the switch in a couple of the photos. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the other switch and the window lock as I won't be wiring it for the passenger's access to my window.

As you guys can see, the interior is pretty clean in the sense that it could be dirtier. Needlesstosay, I have some more cleaning to do so that the interior is CLEAN in the enthusiasts-judge-their-peers sense of the word ;)

After cleaning the interior this is my laundry list of things to do:

Install JDM mirrors
Rewire passenger window to accept auto retract
Install new bumper cover
Install Aeroform body kit and predrill holes for mounting
Re-trim rear strut tower bar holes in hatch panels for better fitment
Replace hatch struts
Send car in for paint

Over the winter I am removing the head for head work and installing the valvetrain items I bought for the motor. I am also going to use that down time to finish off the suspension with the poly bushes I have for it. I'm too lazy to do it right now. After five years of waiting I'm just ready to drive the car.
