Well to some of you guys that have installed this headers, care to give any tips on installation?? (i have a can of pb plaster, and i guess a long
extension)

Do i use the gaskets that come with em or reuse my old ones?

any probs with the sensors, will i use both sensors?

oh right below the two studs there is a hex nut that comes off, what is that for? lol

i guess they want me to use those new screws instead of my old ones?

srry for askin to much haha :wiggle:

headers you must have a v8!

It looks just like a stock replacement, you are going to get rid of the primary cat by installing this btw.

I think there should be 8 head studs to take off on the head. After Take the three studs off of the exhaust and it should be right out.. shouldnt take too long.

The big hex bolt there is filling the bung for a screw in o2 sensor. You shouldn't need to remove it, just make sure it's tight to prevent an exhaust leak :)

alright i got them on after 4 hrs of work haha.

At first the old headers didn't wanna come off, 1hr later, i noticed there was bracket below by the radiator that was holding on to the headers. lol

only prob is that the sensor wire is too stretched out any one know how to fix this?

oh the sensor itself was completely white, should i replace it?
(i don't think it's been replaced for the last 70k)

For the 02 wire stretch problem, to the best of my knowledge i have been told you can just cut and extend the wire just like you would a regular wire. But i would wait for someone to confirm on that one.

I see no problem splicing a section of wire in.

dont cut the wires on the sensor itself, cut them on the engine harness and extend there. The wires on the sensor are very hard to solder; I would not recommend splicing

Okctrd

alright, im going to see where that wire comes from the harness and solder it from there.

thanks for the help.

btw anyone know what that orange plug is for?

Header.

Header.

Header.

It is a single head, thus it has a single header.

If you had two heads, you would have a set of headers.

Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine.

So no votes for exhaust manifold?

darthripley
12-15-2009, 06:55 AM
exhaust manifolds have a turbo attached to them.
a header or headers are for N/A or S/C applications.

at least that's how it works in my mind ;)

headers you must have a v8!

NOT TRUE, engine does not have to be in v configuration

darkripass they make turbo manifolds

he means the plural sense. you cant have 2 without a V.

Don't think that's true. If I remember the F model Land Cruiser straight 6 had "headers" (I think it was 1 & 6, and 2-5).

PS: A header is usually defined by being a tubular exhaust manifold. And I don't think you'll ever find Toyota referring to any "exhaust manifold" as a header in their literature.

your sensor that is broken, thats the cold start timer switch. your car will run fine without it but wont like to start in really cold weather. you can grab a new one from the parts store, or the jy.

does the car benefit from having the header installed or is it more cosmetic?

The fact that the pipes are "tuned" (equal length) and larger diameter than the stock manifold should make your engine breath much better - that along with the reduction of back pressure by removing the CAT should help the engine rev better.

This assumes that the rest of the exhaust system is in good shape.

I have these headers I want to get but can nay1 tell me if the downpipe that go with it will fit my 92 celica gts?

Header, you only have one.

eBay header (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyota-90-97-91-92-93-Celica-2-2L-5SFE-Exhaust-Header-/270589592995?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f006585a3)

Not sure if this is the one you're refering to but there is no downpipe for this. It will bolt right up but you need to get a new catalytic converter installed somewhere.

reducing back pressure on an NA car is not usually an improvement, in fact, it typically causes a loss in power if you take too much out. But the extra flow should improve high end performance
