View Full Version : Changing engines...18R to 22RE

Iím restoring my 1974 and Iím thinking of taking my 18r out and putting in a 22re. I think the only thing I have to change to make this fit would be the oil pan? Is the 80ís truck 2WD what I need? My 74 bell housing fits perfect to the RE block. I would have to drill the two dowels to make it fit. Also would my 74 hood close over that? I know the 75ís have the raised hood to accommodate its height but that might be because of the stock carb/air?

Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks

I'll fix the title. Only mods can edit that, always feel free to drop any of us a PM.

The hardest part of that swap will be the wiring, though it isn't horrible on the old ones. Make sure you get the complete harness and ECU from the donor car.

It's a common swap though, do some searching and you should find everything you need. Anything else, we've got a few first gen guys that should be able to answer. They'll show up here at some point.
