View Full Version : Where does this bracket go?

12-07-2009, 10:11 PM
92 Celica Gt 2.2l AT

Replaced the head Gasket, Had the head machined with new valve seals and everything check by the machine shop. Put everything back together and cannot for the death of me find where this bracket went...

There are similar brackets holding the intake up on the back side of the engine block and also some holding the passenger side axle carrier bearing to the block.

I have been driving it without this for sometime and everything is fine just scares me that the bracket did nothing.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I know on my 3S I have a bracket that goes from the top of the alternator to the top of the passenger side engine mount, its kind of similar to that one. Might be worth a look.

no, i remember the one night wolf is talking about. that bracket is too long to be the one that goes from the alt to the passenger side engine mount. it could be the bracket that goes from tranny to the driver side motor mount. it's right behind the starter. it might me that one. not sure though. try it out.

I'd say it's the transmission-mount strap as well. Might get a picture of it up in a couple hours.

nope, not the one behind the starter, looks almost identical though. I took it off in the process to do the head job. haha I said "head job"

That definitely looks very similar to that bracket on the 3S.

Looks like the one from the alternator bracket to the stock downpipe

Looks like a banana from the side.. hope that helps :p

At least somebody agrees with me lol

the one from the alt to the passenger side engine mount is on, on the 2.2l its a little short bracket.

It doesn't taste like a banana :(

alt to stock downpipe? maybeee ill look tomorrow to cold in the garage

That looks like one of the support bars that hold the intake manifold to the block.

i like this guessing game.... i wanna win

12-08-2009, 04:13 AM
1 bar on the left, 1 bar on the right and how many bars on the rear? was it 2 or 3 or 4?

thats easier than guessing ;)

whom ever wins gets a prize!

then u have 2 possibilities left and unchecked locations for that little stubby guy.

the transmission <> drivers side mount as celica91gts and Galcobar mentioned ...
or its carrier bearing bracket <> powersteering pump which u probably have it already?

but hey if u still cant find it at least you have a 7" toy.

12-08-2009, 04:55 AM
its not the drivers side mount.
not the passenger side mount.

ill take some more pics from underneath tomm...

I don't need another 7" toy haha

lol I totally screwed up. I even knew what it went to but for some reason I said powersteering pump :/

I meant center bearing bracket <> block.

theres 2 mounts on the backside of the block/intake manifold. They brace the intake manifold to the block(helps prevent too much stress on the intake mani which causes vac leaks like mine). That looks to be the smaller one.

Ill accept the prize of $800 to finish my rebuild, thank you, goodnight

show me a picture and ill give you cyber sex. lmao

Not much of a pic since I chopped some out but its gotta be one of those 2 ;)

12-08-2009, 07:48 AM
i thought there was only 1 from the back of the block near the oil pan going to the back of the intake mani. prize will be rep points. lolol

so far the ones from the
tranny to the driver side mount is already mounted
the one from the alt to the passenger side is there too
and there's already one on the intake mani. (could be one more here)

12-08-2009, 07:58 AM
there is suppose to be 2 on the intake manifold <> block.

one long one and one short one.

its the 2nd part in the picture with it circled.

Steve is correct on this one.

I just did this last year on my 5sfe 2.2

can someone actually take a picture of it on the back?

what side of the long brace does it go on looking from the back of the car?

im still having difficulties... I promise im not retarded.. haha

I did happen to do something productive this weekend, changed the driverside axle seal, it was leaking a drop or 2 of trans fluid when parked. I can't stand leaks! So went through all the trouble of popping the axle out then found that whom ever put it in before put the seal in backwards. hah (cost= $5.00 for seal)

also got the wheels balanced, found out one was bent, that explains the high speed light shimmy i feel, ill put it on the back and get over it for now.. (cost=Free because I Powder coated the guys intake manifold for his Sentra...)
