Been working on a few projects but it seems like I need to build another all-out 5S-FE. Probably put it in a SW20 chassis. I will start working on the build sheet and keep progress posted here and on MR2OC.

Project list, in order to be finished...

Mr2 V6, 1MZ-FE... finished in a week or two.
Celica.. fix frame, build travel car from Columbus to Des Moines (5S-FTE)
RTA Race Car for the shop (AW11 7A-GTE)
5S-FE... Full tilt (SW20 chassis) (goal 200whp, 185wtq)
5S-GTE... inprogress, need new rods then assembly, needs chassis(ST185?, ST205?, SW20?).

Did you ever make any progress on that 5sfe header? I was disappointed you never got a volunteer. Everybody whines about getting one, but when it came down to it, nobody would man up, wish I lived closer.:bigthumbu

With your history, lets see what we can do about changing that.

What are the odds of you making it down for a Dragon Run again?

I still want to get over to your shop considering it is only like ten min away, I'm just busy with 10 hour days at work. Winter is when we sell the most crash parts due to the snow.

Grey: Yes the header is made and has been for a while now, just need a 5S to test it on.

Murg: 100% to make it to the 2010 run, probably bringing the V6 Mr2 as the Celica will still be in the rebuild stage from body damage.

Lonestag: I'm there from 10am untill 11+pm, just shoot me a call 614-291-9100 before you head over.

85GTS: Yes I can, is this for a 20r or 22r head, what TB do you want to use, etc?

Talked to Murg, and talking to luni... will have vendorship very shortly and a seperate forum so I am told. If you have any specific requests, email me at the address above.

Its good to be back.

Since I'm relatively new... what is the header you speak of?

A one-off designed/fabricated by me. It's a 4-1 equal length for the 5S-FE. It fits Celicas and MR2s, 100% stainless steel w/ 3/8 inch laser cut flange. Some fabrication will be needed to mate it to your existing exhaust, but I am in the process of making a B-pipe to mate to the factory cat-back.

If you went 4-2-1, there'd be a bigger demand.
If I still had a S block, I'd get one.

erstechen:

I designed this header my final year in college (2004/2005). Using various parameters based on a stock engine. The 5S engines have a serious design flaw, their rod ratio. This provides them with plenty of mid range power but after 5500-5700rpm they stop breathing. This is for several reasons, rod ratio, cam geometry, throttle diameter, exhaust manifold, etc.

After playing with a pre-made PaceSetter header (for the 3S-GE) and modifying it several times I found that I made no less torque in the mid range and still gained what I wanted near 6300rpm. Now granted I had many other modifications; however, to this day with that 4-1 header I still hold (as far as I know) the power and torque record with factory internals for a 5S-FE (pistons, rods, cams, valves, springs), 130whp and 150wtq. I have the dyno sheet around here somewhere, I will find it and post it.

I'm not saying tha a 4-2-1 wont make better mid range, it would. These engines don't need more midrange they need to breathe longer, if only a few hundred rpm. This also makes the engine more linear instead of the usual mid range kick then nothing.

I just purchased a 1992 GT. I'm going to use that as a test bed and I will let the results do the talking, good or bad. I will post what ever happens with all products. Obviously if results suck, I will redesign and test again. If people prefere a 4-2-1 for other reasons I have no issue designing one. It would be more expensive and time consuming to make.

Guess its time to update everyone... I hate doing this so infrequently, hazards of owning a business i guess.

1MZ-FE complete
Celica still sits quietly

Building a 5S-FE, kinda unique as usual. Building this one for the DIY guys out there. How to make power on a budget in a 5S-FE, but are willing to dig into the engine. I have taken some pictures, bearings came in from Toyota today. Waiting on the rotating assy. from the machine shop. I'll start a new thread this weekend about it. Long story short, with this engine I will try to set the "factory toyota parts" 5S-FE power record. Factory from the throttle body to the end of the header; front of crank to end of crank. Lists will be had and pictures to boot.
