Oh and re-plating the smiley?? Well itís running me $925
for the polishing of the two stainless pieces on the front
grill and the round bolts for the bumpers then the smileyís
themselves. The guy said you wonít even recognize them
when heís doneÖI hope they just kick butt!! :spank:

My plans are to restore the body entirely
new rubber throughout, the smileyís told
you about that. I already did the interior,
headliner, carpet, and seats. Need to take
a look at the seat belts there not rolling all
the way out. This has been in my garage for
years like 20! My wife said either you do something
with that or Iím going to fill it with dirt and make a
planter out of it. So here ya go Honey!! $$

Nice car but I have to reply, there is no end to the wrenching! lol! It is not to say these cars are not tough and awesome, they are just over 20 years old and many have seen a hard life.

I know how much work they are and what a joy it is to drive a '70s RWD Celica. Nice Work!

That vinyl that you see there has lasted 30+ years. Granted
the rust, but where on a Celica donít you see that somewhere.

"IF" I do I will make sure all the proper things are done ie: sealant and such.
Iím hooked on the primus of the Black and White contrast it looks sick!

My body guy is just out of control!! When I dropped this off I sure
didnít expect this. He did come highly recommended and was labeled
as meticulousÖoh my gosh. I thought I took off a lot of stuff, but
he just shelled my little Celica out. I am so lucky to have this guy
and chose him because he has his own shop so the over head is
nothingÖbottom line money goes right to the car...nice!!

I've got a lot on my plate right now, not to speak about all the cash. But yah I'm looking at putting a 22R in nothing fancy but it will be a looker! You know a header and pipes. I'll polish her up but my first gen weighs nothing so I'm sure that engine will be plenty. :)

I got this new T/A radial off of eBay for $75 bucks…REALLY?? :woot: Yep that’s cheaper than I got them when they made them.

The belts on both driver and passenger won’t release, I’ve taken the wires out because of the restore and the OEM plugs have been taken out so maybe if someone could look at theirs and tell me the colors and the tracer colors maybe I could overcome this wall I’m at. This schematic will hopefully will help me and others.

Ok I've got a few things going on, it has been haunting me. This fuel filter just won’t fill up it seems to be half to a quarter full. The fuel pump is new, a new Weber carb. I did have the tank re-done because of sediment issues. It did clog things up at one point so the engine wouldn’t run, but I worked through that blowing the lines and such. Would there be something in the pump or in the carburetor to keep the fuel pressure from reaching the proper level? The way it’s working now it idles fine at Ĺ in the filter then at 1500 RPM cruising speed is drops ľ and it acts like its cutting out but it’s just starving for fuel.

Also I just replaced my voltage regulator with a newer style. This newer style Is great, it has no type of relay in it so you dont get that jumping on the AMP meter, its a strong charge all the time, notice the lower profile also. I’m am certainly no electrician but I do know this has been the best improvement 12 volt wise since my new battery!

awsome

i like where this is going alot except

bfg tires suck, ive had em on my 3rd gen and one of my toyota trucks. yokohama avids were a vast improvement over the bfgs. The advantage you have though is your 1st gen is ligter than my gts or my truck. If you really wanted something with an amazing grip next go round get some falken 912's or 952?.

anyhoo glad your back and updating on this sweet ride

IMHO - please be sure to mount the white letterings on the insides of the rims. Blackwalls facing out. But - its really your call.

85gtsblackman
07-17-2010, 12:15 AM
actually white lettering out is retro, thats how my gts was when i had the 2 white letter sets, whites out.

White out is retro for domestics, was not that way for old imports unless someone with a domestic mindset got their hands on it. makes the car look cheap but thats just my 2 cents.

Well as far as retro goes you both are right. Toyota's came with black walls mostly due to cost. But for me personally the white out is my ol'school (retro). That includes the T/A's I've been rollin with those for like...ever. But thanks for the future choices on the "other" rubber, beings how I will never get the T/A anymore. (Discontinued)

Thanks for saying whats on your mind...

85gtsblackman
07-17-2010, 05:46 AM
no problem

the t/a's once they get close to half are horrible in wet or dry

next, if your on a budget , are yokohama avids, you can get these with the raised outlined white letters on one side and blackwalls on the other side. I loved these tires when i was running stock 225/60/14s. even when i got them down to the wear bars they still did me good in the wet and were hard to brake loose.

when i went to 16s i got falken 512, awsome tire, no white letter option though but grip is awsome but they wore out kinda quick.

my buddy has 9628 or 952 falkens on his 3rd gen and they are the best all around tire ive felt so far, no noise, awsome grip, slow wear.

oh btw retro most state version yotas came with firestones.

To put all this to rest (letters and manufacturer) I have the original spare in the trunk of my Celica. I’ll take a pic of it tomorrow and post it. Too weird huh, and having it in such good condition too!

i have my orginal spare but the only rusty part of the car was the spare tire well, so the steelie isnt in the best of shape

A little slow on the reply but here they are. You can see the rust line and from the sound of it you know where Im coming from when I mention that.

See if this matches what you got and if not I wonder it depended where the Celica was shipped?

OK I haven’t had time to do anything so this is pretty much a rehash of what’s been done. The weather finally cleared up so I had to go out and take some pics. 8) I took her to a field did a photo-op also did some shots with the LED blues to get an all-round view versus what I had taken before.

And yes Aaron I took one of those vinyl shots of which you’re so drawn toward. :-D :-D

There comes a moment in time to have something that equals the vehicle that in my case is that crazy sound…music!! I had to get something that would crank this puppy was a very nice upgrade! :boogie:

I don’t have all the specs but 2 - 6x9’s (Pioneer), 2 - 5 ľ (KICKER), and a sub (BOSTON) in the trunk it rocks. The pictures likes always don’t do it justice it looks nice. I don’t like to shelf the receiver (Kenwood) but in this case I’d rather do that than to cut my dash, NOT gonna happen! So that will work I have a remote so no biggie.

It’s nice to have all the music in a 4 gig thumb drive who needs radio, but I will say HD radio is very cool also! The install was quite long I replaced everything but it was all worth it.

I will be replacing my window seals soon. I hope to have video of it, if not at least pics. Thanks for dropping by guys, take care cya.

So today was the day for the install of the window seals (finally) !!

Surprisingly the front went on very well. I ask if he wanted me to take the headliner out or anything else he said, “no its gonna be okay”. I thought this was going to be a breeze then the back window … well it was pretty tight. But with some pushing and pulling we got the seals to seat.

Exposing the top clips was also a daunting experience. It went on perfect at the end. He was nice enough to mount the louvers…perfect. He said the old windows take a special sealer that costs $25 a tube.

The last time the trim was taken off I didn’t have a chance to buff them so I did polish these and they came out great!! 8O

The overall experience was not that bad. He said the heat of the day makes a big differents. 8)

Well it’s time for another upgrade this is a 22R, go figure but hey I’ve been living with an 18R all of my Celica life so this will be a wild ride for me. :boogie: Of course I’m going to picture the standard shiny new parts and what it’s gonna have, and the cross member and oil pan…but hey that’s why we’re all here!! :D

If you know of someone that has a 75 in that let me know. It looks like the bell housing will match. Maybe a dowel would need to be shaved off, but the pressure plate and disk match fine.
Here’s some starting parts… 8) :typerhappy:

The valve cover is done with the cleaning, polishing then the wrinkle paint. My color scheme is pretty basic Black/White so that’s why the white stripes on the cover and not polished.

I don’t think when this 22R is done no one will have seen one like it before and I hope that would be a good thing…we’ll see. :-? 8)

Now for the interior for some, you might remember the front end of my RA with those LED’s. Well now they’ve found their way under my dash floorboard. So again this will be an acquired taste so it’s fine if this doesn’t work for all. :-? The pictures have a hard time showing the actual look but it’s all I got. It’s a very smooth light and really doesn’t dominate as the pic shows. I believe it looks that way because of the time laps on the exposure.

That’s it for now. The 22R should be done in about a week or so.

If you know anyone that has a 75 oil pan drop me a line.

I got my cross member from Ted over here at 1st GenCelica it was perfect and I thank him for this :woot: , because it is the ONLY year I could use for my engine swap it also works for others for that matter 71-73. It came in a bit rough  but I’m not scared I’ve found out with this restoration parts are hard to come by, but there is a lot of OE beneath all that muck. 8)

Again this is not really worth a post but I don’t yet have much going on. I am so stoked for this engine swap.

I did find a 1975 oil pan which makes 2 of the 3 items I’ll need. :Cool Dude: So I’m crossing my fingers for the oil draw tube. I have my local guys looking. Then I’ll have to do my national search, in which I’ve had good luck with.

So like I have said before this color scheme might not be the toast of all but its just the way I roll. :blank: As some of you may know already :D

So it’s getting close to being put together so I don’t do dirty, so its wire brush and polish/seal time. This took some time and looking back when I was done I couldnt believe that’s all I had accomplished? *WHAT??*
But oh well I’m happy. :)

Now with concerns of the not painted parts on the block hopefully most will figure that those didn’t need the paint (in the threads) and yes again the color.

So nice segwey, it will go from bottom up; Black Oil pan, White Block, silver head, and timing cover then the Black wrinkle paint /w the white stripping valve cover on top.

So we’ll see…

Project looks great man, can't believe how clean that all looks.

My only input is on the interior LEDs. I recommend using a LED diffuser to even out the hot spots in the lighting.

Was this your first car?!

Well no but yah, I had a 71 Corona but it was ripped from front to the rear on the right side. Then the Celi came along...

Those LEDS arnt that bright, only in the pic because I had to leave the shutter open, so thats why they looks so bright. It is a mellow blue, but could see white being used or red maybe just what looks good to the user. :)

Well UPS brought by something that has been holding me back from my swap. :typerhappy:

This 1975 oil pick-up tube has been a real dilemma for me.

But “ra22turbo” from 1stGenCelica helped me out by selling his to me for a great price!

This is what it’s all about, us sharing info and hard to find parts...kudos to him!! :highfive:

Well I’m finally getting to the power plant for this thing. Out with the old 18R and in with the new 22R (up and coming).

Well needless to say the move was a tad scary for me. I didn’t need to make any dents, scratches, or anything else!! I know this is a bit backward, (body then engine) but this is what it is… I tell everyone around this DON’T LEAN ON THT FENDAR, the body guy gave me a bunch of crap the tops were dimpled with people leaning on them. **SHEESH** [rolleyes]

Been waiting for the engine to be done so having so time on my hands so I did this to my radiator. Did wired and polished every bolt I had taken out. Now I'll lie in bed thinking of other things to do.

*sigh*

Thoughts on this idea: The shroud on the radiator I was thinking white with the engine bay and the radiator black I thought that would break it up a bit. hummm

You have to give this stuff a shot. the prep is clean as best you can dry then spray only what you want. your not real limited on that tho. :D

So its in, and thats the only good thing! It looks as if the oil pan isnt fitting proper (too thick up front) or the mounts are wrong. I was told the pan was off of a 75 which it has to be. Does anyone have a pic of a 75 oil pan?? Google doesnt pick one out. I don't remember I wonder if I could 180 that pan its tapered more on the end right now or not...

If the mounts are then it looks to be too tall for my stock hood to shut. Im sitting now  what to do.

engine swaps are great but all this weird stuff always has to come up. WHY UGH!!

Does anyone have a pic of a 75 oil pan?? Google doesnt pick one out.I usually go to www.rockauto.com, or sometimes NAPA's or Carquest's wholesale sites, when I need part images. Rock Auto usually has several good pics to look at of any given part.

This is a minor issue, easily solved. Don't let it get you down when you've come this far already!

UPDATE: Nothing I suggested above worked, but I may have a solution for you. Stand by...

This is a little confusing. Are you sure the engine crossmember you installed is different from the one that was in the car?

Unless I am misunderstanding something, here's the original 1974 18R crossmember:

http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab257/walter34-bear/DSC_0079-1.jpg

And here's the one you installed:

http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab257/walter34-bear/DSC_0087-1.jpg

Both of these look like the same crossmember to my untrained eye.

From what little I can find on forums, it seems that a mid-sump pan is what you are supposed to have as well.

Which motor mounts are you using? Come to think of it, which motor mount brackets are you using? From what the EPC says, '75-'78 Celica and pickup are interchangeable.

You know looking at it this way they do, but I did lay them side by side and the 75 brackets are forward, farther apart and angled up a tad. The black looks to be hindering that look. Thanks for the reply. I think your on the right track on the mounts im getting more ppl sayin that now.

Nope, not till this show. Some of these older cars took on a military look. Fold down windows, gray paint, it must of been that era. That older Honda had 10 inch wheels. I got a problem just finding 13's for my Celica * sheesh*

Facime
08-15-2012, 07:10 PM
OK so when I did my 20R into my 73 I had to use a strange combination of motor mount brackets to get it to fit and even then it was slightly tilted to one side. If memory serves I used a rightside 18R bracket, flipped around to the left side...or something like that. If you have several brakets around to mess with you can try that. But that was just to get bolts to line up. I had no problems clearing the pan as I had taken the crossmember and pan from the same '75 donor.

Edit: I just looked at some old pics and another thing was the thickness of the mounts. Let me see if i can post up some photos that might help.

note the mount. Also note that the front of my motor did sit up a bit higher thatn I thought it should have:
http://www.celicatech.com/gallery/files/1/1/3/3/1/celica_stuff_014.jpg

You may want to fab up your own brackets.

I finally found the answer to my dilemma. The pan that I was using was yes a 75 but it was JDM. I was so lucky to come across this guy close to me believe it or not. It always seems if you need something it’s miles away, but nope [thumbsup] .

Anyway this guy had like an acre or so of blocks, heads, cranks, and yes oil pans. I described my problem to him and he walked out of his huge shop walked a few yards climbed an aluminum ladder, jumped up on a 55 gallon drum and searched on top of the container box for awhile then boom he shows me the most excellent pan!! Tapered at both ends sump in the middle rusty and dirty it still looked like gold to me!! [love] [woot]

He explained to me only the Japanese models had those oil sensors and had the different configuration to it even though it was a mid sump oil pan and being a 1975.

In the pictures below you can see what a diffrents between the two are but also similarities. Also there is now so much more room between the cross member and the pan.

Things Just keep popping up that aren’t on the schedule there’s a broken bolt on the pan that needs backing out, then the lower radiator hose. When the car is raised the sway bar hit the looping metal tube portion so a leak developed. Looking at the bolted down section it was cracked it was creating the leak.

So off goes everything and off to the store to TRY to find the right molded Gates hose. After two trips I got the right one. I cut the metal portion that was leaking then placed it back on. Then on with the new, new hose and no leak YEAH! I win that battle … :2thumbs:

I was a bit lazy I didnt want to lay down to take the underside pic.

I've noticed, I thought it would fix itself in time I could be wrong. My other site posts are just fine. Is there something I need to do to correct it?

Welcome Celicatech.

Where people like to ban words, such as ****.

Since the URL to your photobucket account contains the word '****', it is being replaced with asterisks and thus breaking the link.

I'll beat someone into submission and restore the functionality of the word ****.

Looking great. It's time for a set of Pacific Wonderland license plates.
