how often do you check your oil level?

10-17-2009, 05:22 PM
i went for when the spirit moves me. only check it when i get a wild hair up my ass to see how black it is. and trust me. its fucking black

10-17-2009, 05:22 PM
Every week, when im done washing my car

10-18-2009, 04:03 AM
i never remember to check it, and i burn or leak 2 or my 5 quarts every 3k miles

10-18-2009, 04:30 AM
Every few days since the motor is wearing out and burning oil.

10-18-2009, 05:47 AM
majority of my vehicles ive had have had between near 150,000 to over 200,000 miles so i check every 2-3 days outta habit

i check my pops every week, and his cr isnt even broke in yet

10-18-2009, 07:09 PM
Generally when I get gas

10-18-2009, 07:23 PM
Most of the time I know how many mile to add a half quart. I drive the same all the time unless the wife and kids are with. Since I travel all the time for my job now I have certian fuel up points I add oil.

10-18-2009, 08:50 PM
speaking of this. when i was getting fuel today, the truck said i have 4% oil life left. how ever the hell far that is.

10-18-2009, 09:40 PM
Well doesen't everyone know that? J/k So if 3000 is your normal oil change interval would be 120 miles left before a oil change.

10-18-2009, 10:04 PM
oops. hit edit on your post instead of quote

I go 5000+ which is about typical for what most diesel guys do. and i beleive on my old dirtymax the onboard change your shit timer would kick on at 5000 as well.

and fuck off. i suck at math.. especially percentages :thefinger

10-18-2009, 11:02 PM
I usually go for once every 2 weeks on the celi, and the truck seein how i just got her i check it once every couple days...
then my bros pile van is once a month if i remeber ( hes useless and doesnt do ANNNYY routine checks) and numerous times theres been no oil on the dipstick..on that note im gunna go check it haha

10-18-2009, 11:13 PM
Everytime I fill up.

10-18-2009, 11:33 PM
God isn't a cat with no balls not supose to be so tempermental. J/J don't get mad so with 5000 take .04 times 5000=200miles.

10-19-2009, 04:59 AM
Typically I go a month between checking the oil levels. That's timed on gut instinct and familiarity with the car.

Engine's nearly at 175k right now, burns about 1 quart for every 1,500 - 2,000 miles.

10-20-2009, 02:37 AM
I check the oil in my truck before I drive it at all. Where's that option? :hehe:

Too many sudden MAJOR leaks have made me paranoid.

10-20-2009, 06:44 AM
I don't... I change the oil once a month regardless of mileage (except that week where I changed it 3 times... stupid Dragon).

10-21-2009, 11:13 PM
I'm kinda bad for not checking my oil too often, usually when I'm changing it.

But then the other day I checked the GTS and there was zero oil on the dipstick and I had to give myself a smack in the head. From now on I'll be checking every few days, not sure if its burning oil or leaking though.

My level stays the same between changes.

10-23-2009, 09:27 PM
Mine uses about a quarter in 3000 miles. I try to think and check every two weeks though.

10-24-2009, 03:56 AM
my 33 year old 20r doesnt leak or burn any oil (not to say it didnt when i got it). its nice. does leak a lil water around the pump tho.

My Celi is/was bullet proof and I just had faith that the oil level was fine till I changed it. It's gone 6 years with that kind of maintenance, so uhh, thank god for no leaks. =p

10-24-2009, 06:42 PM
My level also stays the same between changes, however I still check it at least once a week.

10-25-2009, 07:24 AM
I check it every morning. Mine loves to gobble it up. :(

10-26-2009, 05:58 PM
I just check out big the stain is under the car and add oil accordingly.

10-26-2009, 06:22 PM
after every race. which is way more often than any scheduled maintenance. i put around 3000 miles a year on the car and change the oil after every rally or drag session. better safe than sorry.

11-05-2009, 11:24 PM
I just check out big the stain is under the car and add oil accordingly.

That was funny as heck. :D

11-06-2009, 05:34 AM
i hardly check it now. it doesnt drip or burn... i use to check when i first had the car but oil levels stays the same even up to 4k miles.. so i dont bother anymore. jus water level.

11-06-2009, 06:23 PM
About every 3 days or so. My rear main seal is bad so I need a quart of oil every 3-4 days.

11-12-2009, 04:42 PM
I check mine every time I fill up or wash my car. It has never needed a top up yet.

12-06-2009, 01:56 AM
every couple of days...

12-06-2009, 11:13 PM
wait wait wait... these cars use oil??? is that what that big blue plume of smoke is that comes out the side of my car everytime i start it? i guess that would make sense. i should go add a quart and a half to my car right now... but its cold and the oil light goes off so its good for now...

I try to check it each time I fill up, doesn't always happen though. However, since my 18 Y/O Son threw a rod in his 02 GT, he will be checking the oil every couple of days! That or he will find my boot up his ass! (can you tell I'm the one that paid for the engine and did swap).

05-24-2010, 02:05 AM
i check it when i remember its not a dd and only gets drivin when im bored or not working or working on it. it only leaks when its been driven found that out after not having a puddle in storage but leaving a nice spot of after taking it home. as for the honda. who really cares it was a grand and it survived a bushpoletreeditch thing.

12-28-2010, 06:17 AM
It wasnt a poll option but, every time I fill it up. Its just another diagnostic tool like checking your guages to me. Better to see something coming than wait for it to happen.

01-26-2011, 04:57 PM
^ I do the same thing. Checking all fluids when I gas up.

Holy thread revival, Batman!

My 7a surprisingly doesnt burn or leak any oil, so I rarely check it. I only check the condition of the oil when I think its close to time for a change.
