So I'm coming to a wall here regarding the E153 transmission.

Notes:
s53 = too weak for 4g 3s
s54 = still weak for 4g 3s

e53/56 = better, can handle power
e153 w/ LSD = best trans

From what I'm reading.. for the e153 transmission I'll need the following:

inner shafts from the MR2
outter shafts from the GTS/Alltrac (4th generation celica)
st165 trans mount

Does the above also hold true for teh e53/56 transmission? Which would be my 'best' option here? I'm thinking I'll need the Camry or MR2 flywheel to bolt up instead of the gte, am I wrong?

Best bet in my view would be a Solara E153 w/ a Torsen LSD. The factory Viscous LSD is the suck anyways.

Would I be better off to get a S53/56 from a 5th gen manual trans? (due to availability).

I know the 'best' is the e153 from the dual syncros or something from what I was reading, but I'm not planning on hotdogging the car (much).

e153 should be able to handle what you throw at it. it would be a great trans if you are just traveling back and forth to work like i do (120 miles a day round trip on my s53)

s54 w/ 3s = out of first in the blink of an eye, 4k rpm at 75 mph without some type of 5th gear mod.

I would get the e153 if possible. LSD preferably, but if you like shifting fast and often and want to take a chance with the power, the s54 is readily available like you said. I got a s54 on my 3s and would probably prefer the e153 for more time at full boost in the gears.

I may end up with the e153 then.. I found one w/ axles for $500 plus shipping (non-LSD)

4thgenceli, that trans you bought from Ben with the TRD in it, I HIGHLY advise you visit a Ford dealership and get a bottle of friction modifier, its like $6 and it makes a world of difference for driveability. The guy who had that trans did that and it made the diff not bind all of the god damned time. Did the same with my Kaaz diff and it made it a lot better as well.

The video of you guys making those chocolate chip cookies? I thought that was awfully weird of you to request. Sorry about the camera movement. I just really like cookies and had to eat a few while I filmed your baking endeavours.

Dude, you don't need to go to Ford. You can get LSD additive anywhere.

Stock TRD Sport Tacomas have Clutch type LSDs... We use Kendall LSD Additive @ work.

^ True. We sell some generic brand at my store. Not a huge difference in any of them that I've heard.

Friend of mine told me to get it at Ford, and it made a big difference on my kaaz. I'd assume you could get it other places as well, but I know the Ford shit works from personal experience.

Teh guy who Tim bought his tranny from - Ben, hes got more experience with this stuff than ANYONE I know, bar none.

If he says the ford stuff works the best, Id use it.

This guy has done so many engine swaps, hes dealt with pretty much ANY aftermarket LSD, part, etc thats available. If its to be done, hes prolly done it.

So, I listen to what he says. And that should say quite a bit.

Back to the swap anoher question I had while staring at the transmission on the floor.

I can't use my clutch cylinders on the e153... I just can't seem to visualize how they will attach to the trans... or am I just smoking something vicious?
