That's what happens when a bunch of GT-Four enthusiasts put their heads together and say "what doesn't anyone make for us that we need?". The rest is history.

BTW can we seriously look into a rear hatch?

RedRkt01
10-13-2009, 04:23 AM
A number of people have asked about the rear hatch. I agree that it is crazy heavy, but I just don't think I can see that as being cost effective. Most of the weight is in that glass anyway. So are we talking about designing a poly replacement with a plexiglass window? If not, do we have to design the poly replacement with the load carrying capability for glass? Will the weight of that glass exert a shit ton of force on the poly replacement during high acceleratrion/deceleration forces in something like Rich's use? I just have a nasty feeling about all those questions.........and those all come after the dubious possibility of cost effectiveness.

Shadowlife25

Rear hatch is pointless.

As you stated, all the weight is in the glass. So basically a poly/lexan custom piece is the only option. Not to mention that all auto glass or whatever has to meet certain criteria for road use. (not just in the US either ;) )

Good to hear Rob......tell those guys to join up over here. I can't really get over to your main forum too often. They're best to join up over here where I'm active everyday. If they have questions you know where I am!

perhaps a precut and bent poly or lexan rear window with 2 support rods for the center areas. i hate doing those things myself. agred that the weight is in the glass. i don't know what i was thinking when i posted that.

I imagine that if I did something like that it would be high dollar. HIGH DOLLAR.

I'll be posting my analysis of the sunroof panels sometime in the next 10 days. The price is most likely going to be around $200 USD. I consider it a small price to pay for the end of your rusting issues. However, the price may come down. We'll see what happens.

Mafix

price coming down, sweet! luckily i don't ahve a rust issue but i still need one. reducing the top weight of the car, no matter how small is priceless. (and yes i actually thought of removing the sunroof all together but then the roof line would have been warped to all hell)

They are on UK ebay for 39, which is a very good price!!

RedRkt01
11-17-2009, 05:12 PM
Yes it is. $70.00 here. It should be about $50 for shipping with insurance. That should keep the laminate nice and safe!

I still haven't gotten the test panel.

I got one of these for my bro's GTS for XMAS, only had a quick look at it but looks very nice. Super light obviously, should be a good option for replacement. I can see this being a very popular peice! (not for me tho, I don't have a sunroof on my 165)

RedRkt01
01-02-2010, 05:53 PM
Chris, you couldve gotten that for less, with shipping, through me. Be glad that isn't one of the more expensive items. Don't forget about me next time.

For me it was timing - you hadn't yet got them in, and I needed in time for Christmas. And yes, I paid extra to have shipped air mail too, but I'll live. :) If you had them in I would have gone through you for sure!

I just wanted to post a quick note about the product, that's all. I think having a source for these in North America will be huge for us 16x owners!

Well I'm glad you know I have them. For future reference I can still coordinate between you and any of my parts suppliers and get the products to you even if I don't have physical possession of them. That's a pita sometimes, but can be done. It keeps the cashflow in NA also. I like supporting economies that are as local as possible.
