View Full Version : catastrophic failure......

so i have spent the last month gutting and rebuilding my 5s. had a donor car, the whole 9 yards as some would say.

i got my baby up and running for the first time last night.
had her timed and ready this afternoon.
got a three day tag permit and new insurance also this afternoon.

took her out for the first drive. (to the emissions place.)

half way there, about 12 miles into the drive, my alternator belt snapped on me.
(i say, not a good thing but very fixable.) oh also, my a/c pump was crooked when i looked. so i figured the bolts were not tightened down all the way and thats why the belt snapped.

WRONG............................................. ........ =(

What ACTUALLY HAPPENED was my number 1 connecting rod shot through the side of the block, (creating a 2 inch tall by 2 1/2 inch wide hole BTW) into the a/c pump, breaking it off the block, causing my alternator belt to snap. =(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=(=( =(=(=(

SO, i just spent $1000 doing all of this, for 12 miles of hearing my baby purr.
Was it worth it?

but there is 1 GOOD thing about today. this gives me the excuse to completely build up either a 5s or 3s turbo engine for next springs Dragon run.....

bummer dude. yeah i'm thinkin you forgot to do somethin. Either clearances weren't right or bolts weren't tight. happens to the best of us. good luck getting another car on the road for school. hope it all works out for ya.

actually thats the weird thing...... all were torqued to proper spec. and i never took the crank or rods out of the donor car. i just checked the bolts and left it as is.

it boggles my mind because i had the donor car running before i pulled the block to put in my car.......

riddle me that one.

Take pics of the entire internal build process if you do. There aren't enough of those threads around.

actually i have come to a very hard decision.

see my gts is my baby. my life. my girl. i love her more then every girlfriend i have had.....

i really want AWD. and cant find a gt4 in my pocketbook range.

ill have both cars for partout on the site, and craigslist. after about a week or two, im taking them to the metal scrapyard for a few hundred bucks.

im gonna go out and put money down on an 00-01 subi rs2.5 i think. they are fun cars to drive, easy to build, and owned by toyota to my knowledge. now at least.

this is a sad, sad day for me gentlemen.

Subaru is owned by Fiji Heavy Industries not Toyota
