I am not to savvy on the 3sge gen 1 but I would say yes. Piggyback will be needed, fuel pump upgrade. Limiting factors on amount of boost will be compression ratio, rods and pistons, and I am guessing that like all early gens it doesn't have a knock sensor. So in all a really good tune and low boost. Hopefully you will get better info from someone that has been there done that. Good luck

Despite the similar names, they are two very different motors. You cant use the st165 ecu.

thats like trying to use teh 3S-GTE ECU to run a turboed 5S-FE, the 3S is a MAF based engine and the 5S is MAP based. two totally different systems

Well crap didn't realize he said 165 ecu. Then it would be like swaping a 5s harness to fit the 3sgte right then he could go to the 165. So not worth the trap door and reworking the 3sge harness.

yes it can work, but it'll cannon ball the motor very quick. the GE compression is way to high. you'll need a gte harness and ecu. this doesn't even remotely look into the oil cooler setup.
