View Full Version : TRD Shift Knob Install

Are there any tricks to changing out the shift knob on an ST185?

The one that is on there is really tight. Before I go to cranking on it to get it off, thought I better check and see if there are any secrets before I tear something up.

Just want a good clean install. I am really tired of fabing up stuff that breaks off.

Just unscrew and screw back on... very simple.

I thought it was too, but "DANG" the orginal one is on there REALLY tight. I could not unscrew it by hand. (Maybe I am just a whimp)

I guess I will have to get some vice grips and crank it.

is it a stock shift knob you're trying to get off? if its an aftermarket one it might be one of those universal ones with the screws on the side.

I assume it is stock. Looks like it.

It is a leather one which does not appear to have the set screws you are referring too.

Thanks though.

lol i know this might be a lil stupid but righty tightey lefty loosey! XP

Turn it counter clock-wise as hard as you can, cause it might be stuck on there somehow maybe the previous owner used loctite or some sort of adhesive...

It was just on there really tight. Had to wrench it off, but after it broke loose it was simple.

Sorry for the silly thred. Just wanted to be sure so I didn't tear anything up.

(New TRD shift knob looks GREAT!)

Thanks all.
