I haven't seen these before, I wouldn't want to use that flex hose, but other then that it looks kinda neat...

That is IDENTICAL to the stock Airbox on my ranger.

Only mine isnt CF

Do an online search for BMC CDA (carbon dynamic airbox) ...

There's also supposedly a 3" version which would be the one that fits my car...

I'm attaching 2 pictures of it installed on a Benz like mine.

The logic behind this intake is short piping like a ram air intake for high rpm resonance, and a cold air duct for cold air... so in theory it's a good all rpm system if you set it up right.

my car already has a similar system (cone filter in OEM box which i replaced with a K&N cone) ducted to the passenger side grill vent.

In the pictures you can see that they changed the duct to the driver's side to get direct air to the filter. A couple of people have done this mod and say they gained a bit of midrange with it...

obviously the key to this, is where you mount it and duct it.
