View Full Version : This idiot bent his core support

Let me open by making sure I am referring to the right part. The piece of the frame that goes across the front of the bay, and has those clamps that hold your radiator in, and the hood latch on it, that is the core support right?

Well, while i was polishing up my bay, i accidentally sat down on it and bent it downwards.

Son of a bitch. I had it at almost a perfect mirror and now it has major bends in it.

Question is first, that IS the core support right?

Second, should I attempt to hammer it straight or go get a new one from a junkyard? Hopefully an old corolla has one of the same size/shape...

i ask because the bends it made in the middle will show up real bad when you have a mirror finish..

I think you are referring to the upper rad support and yes you can bend it back. However you are going to have hammer dents no matter how careful you are. If you are looking for a mirror finish on this piece you could either get a new one or straighten it yourself and body fill the hammer dents. Of coarse you will have to repaint the piece in question. I don't think this is a real expensive part anyway so you may be able to pic one up fairly cheap. Hope this helps.

how the hell did you bend that?

that doesnt unbolt. you would have to cut out and weld in a new one.

that sux ass, after 7 swaps, i only got a mild dent on the right side....
WTF? are you sitting in there for lol!!! its not a park! get in get out, and always use the battery support to access the bay.....

Mine is bent from when I was dropping the engine in one time. It will bend back

def try to bend it back I just had to weld up the upper and lower core supports and the apron on both sides, it is a huge PITA and if your of by just a little bit you fenders, corners, grille trim, and headlights won't match up, luckily my roomate works at a body shop and had the knowledge base to guide me.

I bent it by being a retard. So far I got hlaf the tack welds drilled out, working on the others. Damn battery powered drill. Keeps running out of power :(

As far as repalcing it, yeah I think i need to find a new one. Or fabricate one.

Bent mine in an accident. It'll bend back, but you'll never get it to look perfect. NEVER!!!!
