"Hook" had talked about 3 different sets of camshafts for the 5sfe head depending on which revision you had, 90-92 and 93. The rev 2 for 93 had 2 different profiles. Would anyone know the part numbers for these rev 2 cams?

Pressure.. i was curious really, you went to a 294 regrind correct?

Now with the 5S a psudeo dual cam, is that on both lobes? If so, then are you really running that aggressive a cam to have 294's or even a single 294 in it?

I tend to feel that the 272's on the 3S head are agressive enough, and lots of people stick to the 256's and 264's for mild turbo setups. So was just kinda interested in your thoughts and how you got to a 294 and perhaps I'm just completely off here in regards to comparing to a 3S camshaft.

The 294 grind by webcams is just a reference number they use, not the actual duration. The actual duration at 0.050" is 218 degrees, so they are a really mild cam.

Gotcha :bigthumbu

That explains a lot!

yea, its odd that they number the grinds that way.
the more agressive ones are the "101" grind IIRC.

I really like the 37e grind myself. :yum:

Well what are you guys doing exactly with the pseudo cam setup? Are you getting both regrinded? Very curious.

Yes they grind both cams to the same duration and lift in most cases. It makes sense to make a broader torque curve.

The 101 grind is duration and lift wise the same as an HKS 272 and the 294 is pretty close to a HKS 264 but with slightly less lift. The 763 grind is also similar to a 264 but has less overlap (but same lift) for forced induction. The 577 grind is somwhere inbetween the 101 and 294.

The thing to realize when you are trying to compare cams though on different engines is that the displacement has an effect on where in the rev range the cams work. So even though the 101 grind has the same specs as the 272, they produce peak torque at a lower RPM on the bigger 5sfe. It still happens high enough though that you should raise the rev limit to really use the 101 grind on a 5sfe.

^^ interesting. Thanks for the info. Ahhhh...cam tuning is so complicated. lol.
