View Full Version : mystery part....is it important?

I had the engine undercovers off when I was replacing the header and I had to remove a small black box under the car to do so. It is basically just a weight about 3" by 3" and 1.5" deep. It probably weighs about 5 pounds. It was a attached with two screws.

I got the part number off it (51228-20040) and put it into a database search. The result came back with "Weight, FR Suspension".

I never put it back on after I finished the work....it was late and I was tired. The next day I forgot. Is this something I need and should I put it back on.

Anyone know what I am talking about??

Balance to keep engine vibrations down? And, as the bottom of mine can attest, something to take collisions under the body before something more delicate.

I've seen that thing, never really could figure out what it was.

It has to be there for some reason...

Maybe it's a control box that toyota could use to command all the celica's to combine into a supreme mechination and execute world domination?

Either way, I may look into its removal if i'm ever trying to drop some weight.

I took mine off. Haven't noticed anything bad happening from it.

Don't have mine either. No ill effects after 6 years so I assume its not that important.
